in Europe just carrying a gun or knife around with you is enough to get you locked up before you even shoot/stab anyone

Such a sad thing...violent crimes over there have skyrocketed in the past 10 years...****, Robbery, Assault...if I knew no one was carrying a weapon I'd take it up as a profession.

Munich is quite safe. The crime rate is quite low here. I wouldnt start your crime spree here if I was you as I doubt the police have much to do and you would be caught quite quickly.

The UK would be good though. No one is allowed to be armed at all hardly and crime is quite high in the inner cities. A householder (Tony Martin) was jailed for murder a few years back because he shot two burglars who were ransacking his house and he killed one of them. He had been repeatedly targeted by burglars in his remote farmhouse and the police had been unable to do anything to help!

Not much chance of any convictions either unless you wave your face in front of a camera as you do it (though there are quite a lot of these dotted around).

Edit- sentences are quite light as well- even if you murder someone you will not serve more than about 7 years in prison.

Best thing to do if somebody gets out of their car and looks steamed is to wait until they come close to you then bolt around them, hit the automatic lock button on their car door then shut it. If he doesn't have a spare set of keys he has more things to worry about then the cyclist taking off.

and that's assuming you get found guilty of murder and get a so called "life" sentence- From what I have gathered from reading the papers there seems to be a trend recently to prosecute murders as manslaughters. I assume manslaughter is easier to prove so it saves money on the trial.

I plan on using my masterlock as an offensive/defensive weapon should I need it. I have a quick release on the side of my panier which holds the lock so access to it is only 2-3 seconds away. I started carying my sidearm but have since then decided against it as I may be tempted to use it while the offending party is in flight.
Just put the lock in the hand and wrap the U around the middle finger.
As a teenager I used this once against an attacking dog, never stuck around but I know I broke it's skull around the left eye socket and the dog ran off in a nice pleasingly staggered manner while welping the whole way. I'd imagine it would cause the same, if not more damage, to a person or auto, should the dire need call for it.

I never have, but my brother used to keep cheap master locks in the seat bag of his motorcycle to toss into the radiators of semis that would harrass him. And he once smacked a guy upside the head with his Time cleat.

In Germany, yes.

But not in Texas. We can carry, legally, a knife with up to a 5.5 inch (139.7 mm) blade.

You never know when you might have to use such an instrument to cut down a small tree, cut a birthday cake, lend to Frodo Baggins for use against orcs and spiders, sell to China as a steel billet to reduce the U.S. trade deficit with China, or...

But, sadly, my knife is only 5 inches (127.0 mm). I feel inaedequate as a man.

My Ulock has prevented violence once or twice when motorists got out of the car to continue "conversations"...they back off when you grab the ulock and move toward them.

I never dreamed I'd hit someone with it. I'd use it to smash up some jerky driver's car, though. I never have, but I've come close. I'm content pressing my middle finger up against their drivers side window.

i've used my head a few times. (dangerous when loaded hehehehe)

I did pull my ulock once (car tried to run me down, guy got out started chaseing me around the car (never flip off the car behind you...)
But i was smart and kept it hidden until i could get away (bravery aside i pick my fights and always think about that knife and gun...)

Pulled it the other day and waved it for effect (guy cut me off, forced me left into traffic then yelled at me, reved the engine then i moved to chuck the lock (then dive to the sidewalk) and he hit the brakes.

One thing i wish i had was a James Bond combo oil slick and tear gas/ smoke screen...
And a Bond girl on the back of my xtracycle...

what you want is one of these - it'll even fit along your top tube. Only good to 100m though

I've never actually had to hit anyone with it... but I have waved it at crackheads before. They keep talking smack, but generally while walking in the opposite direction.
