Sore leg muscles after first road bike ride

Last week, after a couple years of hybrid riding, I made the move to a road bike. For the first time I'm also using clipless pedals. After my first ride, and two subsequent rides, I have sore leg muscles - but it's a different soreness than I've experienced in the past - say from riding the hybrid longer distances than usual. Is it the different riding position, the effect of the clipless pedals, or a combination of the two? I'm just curious . . .

Combination of the two. The slightly different position has some effect, and the clipless pedals mean you are working your legs in a full circle, rather than just the downstroke, so that's different muscles being worked, plus they are probably forcing you to ride with your legs positioned a little differently.

    This too shall pass.

Hah, I recently experienced the exact same phenomenon. (hybrid to road, platform to clipless, sore) I attribute it mostly to the pedals. Don't know if it actually is though.
    Bring the pain.
