Walmart trike for dog exercise?

Currently, I run my pit bull while riding my bike. I hold the leash loosely with one hand. So far, so good. I'm thinking of getting a WalMart trike to use just for running Mabel. We do a 1/2 mile loop almost everyday.
I'm thinking the trike would be safer.
I bought a Walky Dog attachment but its not much different than holding the leash by hand.
Thoughts?

For just half a mile, why not just walk or run?

My pit recently passed away at the age of 16 (best dog EVER!) but I'd never take her biking/running like that- too dangerous for them- between the chances of getting tangled in the bike or hit by a car; and then the fact that so many people are paranoid about pits, because of the stupid media.....please think of your bow-wow's safety. (I would take mine for rides in the truck on occasion- she loved that!- and for many long walks on the leash, of course)

It's a good idea. I've done it, but not on a road. Don't go to fast. How big/powerful is your dog? It's Ok with a 30 lb dog. My friends 107 lb Malamute can probably pull the trike over. Probably pull over my car too.

The best thing about the trike in this situation is that the slower you go the more stable it is. No wobbling when going very slow. The street or path needs to be wide enough for the trike. They don't fit in some places, like a garage for instance. If your dog is small enough you can put him in the basket is he gets too tired. Must be harnessed into the basket. Take a close look at my avatar.

You can easily ride a trike with one hand too, if the leash hand is busy. My trike has a rear coaster brake, so I can use both brakes at once, and still have a free hand.
