Fork Change... Geometry Question
Thought I would try here first.
I have a '96 Gary Fisher Mamba that I have slowly converted from old school mountain bike, to all-around, bike path, dirt road, commuter bike.
Currently, I have a suspension corrected cro-mo fork that I replaced the old, and ineffective Rock Shox Quadra 5 with. I would prefer the steerer to be a bit longer, so I did some searching and found a fork that fits my criteria in steerer length.
My current fork is about 15 3/4" from axle centerline, to the bottom of the steerer where the bottom bearing race is. The fork I am looking at is 14 3/4" for the same dimension.
My question is, how much will the 1" make in handling? Or, will it affect it much at all?

This is a great question.......I've been wondering about the same thing. I have a supposedly susp corrected fork on a frame that came with a 50mm travel fork. The steering it touchy and far more sensitive than I care for a 'round town bike. I hope someone chimes in that knows what the solution is.

I am still at a loss in how to translate that to making my bike ride like I want. I've read posts where people suggest get a 42mm fork.....like you just go to the fork store and order one like it's a pair of shoes. I guess in the case of a custom builder that would be true, but this is a live with it problem it a $400 fork is the solution.
