Making a poll because I'm curious. I've gone my entire life doing physical activities topless when its really hot out, whether that's skateboarding, jogging, disc golfing or biking. Never thought twice about it. The subject came up in another thread and people voiced some pretty negative views towards it. Won't be changing my habits this summer but I'm still interested seeing what the poll results will be.

I used to run outside at noon. Another guy passing in the opposite direction said put on a shirt". I was so amazed I didn't know what to say

I have actually purchased arm "warmers" ... or "coolers" or "sleeves" or whatever you'd like to call them to cover up even more. They are really lightweight arm covers like arm warmers but much lighter and breathable and designed to block the sun.
When we were riding long distances during the summers in Victoria, sunscreen was OK, but what I found worked better was to wear a comfortable light-coloured short-sleeve jersey + these arm coolers as long as I could. I would wear that combo through the morning until the temperature hit about 32C, and then I would become too warm and I'd replace the arm coolers with sunscreen.
People who work outside all day (e.g. my husband, Rowan) find that it is a better idea to wear at least a short-sleeved shirt if not a long-sleeved shirt to protect them from the sun. It's a whole lot cooler and more comfortable to avoid the sunburn.
Even at the beach here, people wear rashies or wicking-Ts if they are going to be out there for any length of time.

I don't burn easily at all, I don't even have to think about using sunscreen. Skin cancer down the road? Maybe. I don't really worry about that either though.

Why would I, or anyone else, care?
Restaurants and other businesses might care, and that's their right, but out on the road it's just between you and the sun.

Within a real broad range I'm pretty much live and let live. Riding shirtless wouldn't blip my radar.

None of my bikes have ever worn a shirt. I on the other hand always wear one. There used to be a male rider in Austin Texas that only wore a g string. Almost crashed first time I saw him on the bike path.

Some bear of a fat guy riding without a shirt may be an unappetizing sight, but I don't care. As long as it's not me, I'd get sunburned to death.

I REALLY don't want to have to look at other people's bodies in public! I guess it's not so bad on a bike- as they go by quickly, and you really don't even notice much, if you are also riding.....but geez, it's one of the conventions of civilization- Cover it up! And I say that to women too! (Who often take more liberties than many men these days)- Unless I love you, I probably don't need to see so much!

I think it is a little foolish. Unless you're planning to slather yourself in sunscreen or only ride early in the morning or late in the afternoon ... or limit yourself to really short rides ... you risk a bad sunburn and increase your chances of skin cancer.

I ride with a shirt for sun protection, and for that little bit of protection against gnats, bees, and hard-shelled beetles. It's pretty common where I live for manual laborers to work shirtless, so if someone rides without a shirt, who cares?

I see shirtless men of all body types mowing their yards, at the pool or beach, boating/fishing at the lake, jogging/running, etc. Why would I care if a guy on a bicycle did the same thing? I don't as a personal choice, but that's just me.

A few years back an Ontario, Canada, court struck down the law that prohibited women from going topless as discriminatory, so now women are allowed to go topless in Ontario. And while I agree the law was discriminatory, I half wish they would have removed the discrimination by making it illegal for men to go topless (except maybe at the beach, where it should be clothing optional for all).

I will repeat my question from the other thread:
Where do you carry your food, phone, money, ID, third bottle, etc?

Pants pocket, seat bag or frame for starters. Basically the same places one would use if cycling in a polo or tee shirt.

I don't want to see your feet either, with those nasty corn chip looking toe nails and the turkey jerky looking dried up ankles. Gross.

I think it's kind of superficial and "hey look at me!" Granted, that may not be the case what-so-ever with you, yet that is the impression it gives off (because lots of men do run/ride topless for just that reason). For me, it's one thing if you think "hey, it's hot" and take off a shirt to maintain temp but entirely different to set out with the intention of running/riding shirtless. Do I care, yes... would I say anything? Only in a group ride.
