Chicago North Shore Century - Evanston,IL to Kenosha, WI

Hey guy, this will be the first organized bike event I will be participating in and was wondering if any of you will be attending or would like to attend.

Here's the details
http://www.evanstonbikeclub.org/NSC/

triumph.1 09-05-11 03:46 PM

I may end up there for my September ride. It is like 2 full hours to drive so I am not completely decided. Usually show up to a ride and hook up with a group that rides the same speed.

ColombianGT 09-05-11 10:31 PM

Eh, just flip a coin on it and see how it goes. By the looks of it, it may be rather cold by then judging on how today's weather was, but then again this is Chicago..

I've heard from friends who've participated in this event before telling me that after the ride is over everyone gets Lou Malnatis pizza which I've never tried but sounds good.

triumph.1 09-09-11 09:14 PM

I am now signed up for this ride, getting there on time will be another issue............

ColombianGT 09-09-11 10:09 PM

Awesome! I'm not even signed up yet! How's you sign up? phone? internet?

Thanks!

You can probably register the morning of the event check the website. Maybe I'll see ya there. I'll be riding a black and white giant tcr that weekend.

ColombianGT 09-10-11 08:01 PM

Hey maybe I'll hit you up before hand and try to set up a time to meet or something - some of my friends claim they're riding but I'm not sure, regardless you can tag along too!

triumph.1 09-10-11 08:27 PM

Shoot me an email if you want and I'll send you my cell. You don't look to have enough posts to pm so I am at triumph.1@comcast.net

ColombianGT 09-13-11 09:31 PM

only 8 more posts until I can PM! lol

ColombianGT 09-13-11 09:33 PM

Is there anyone else who would like to join my small group of friends, triumph.1, and myself on Sunday the 18th for the North Shore Century? Anyone capable of sustaining at least 10mph for 12 hours is welcomed and encouraged to tag along...

triumph.1 09-14-11 03:26 AM

Guess not.

ColombianGT 09-14-11 06:54 AM

Hahaha! I know right? Hey Triumph, when you registered did it say it was mandatory to wear a helmet? Only helmet related rule I saw on the website was stating that riders under 18 had to wear helmets. Please confirm as I dont have a helmet..

triumph.1 09-14-11 10:12 AM

It says "strongly recommended!" I don't necessarily wear one around here, but am trying to make a habit on organized or group rides. If you plan on doing organized rides 99% or there about require a helmet. It also ensures you won't have to put up with potential helmet n*z*'s telling you how to live your life. ;) two more posts to 50.

ColombianGT 09-14-11 12:22 PM

Yes, I double checked and it doesn't say anywhere about it being mandatoty so I should be ok. Just hope I'm not told how to live my life lol

I checked the Evanston and Kenosha weather for Sunday and the forecast is low 70's with light rain/30% Chance of precipitation... hoping that changes!

antmuzic 09-14-11 05:53 PM

Are you all doing the full 100 on Sunday? I am doing the Apple Cider Century the following weekend, so probably wouldn't do the whole 100 on Sunday. But I'd love to join you for part of the ride.

triumph.1 09-14-11 06:01 PM

I plan on the 100. You can do both. :thumb: I did sammys gran fondo in St Charles and the peoria no baloney in the same week. The north shore looks like a laid back ride making a double in the week even more inviting.

antmuzic 09-14-11 09:55 PM

You're kind of talking me in to it...

If I do, there will be sunscreen this time. On the Harmon Hundred I got a sunburn - but only on my shins!

It's going to rain and I don't have any proper gear! I don't know what to do :/ my funds are already allocated towards my $1100 a month school loan for this month. Anyone know where I can it cheap?

triumph.1 09-15-11 07:11 AM

There is only a 30% chance of rain. I am more concerned about the wind out of the south for the return 50, ugh. If you have to just get a cheap ass rain jacket from a sporting goods store or walmart. The cheap ones are usually very thin and would be easy to carry when it doesn't rain. I won't have anything but a rain jacket and if it actually rains it will be pretty cold and miserable.

antmuzic 09-15-11 08:29 AM

You could get one of those cheap plastic ponchos. I'll bet they cost less than $10 in the camping section at the Walmart. You may even find them in a hardware store like Ace.

Lol, I will take a look and see what I find. As far as non rain gear. What are you guys wearing? Cycling shorts and shoes or just regular workout clothes?

triumph.1 09-15-11 01:05 PM

No matter what it will be freezing @ 6:00 am. I have A long sleeve jersey, cycling tights, full finger gloves and will bring the rain jacket in case it rains. Will probably wear a short sleeve jersey underneath in case it warms up. This morning it was 45 degrees and I did not enjoy any part of the 34 mile ride I did.

ColombianGT 09-16-11 05:02 PM

So the forecast went from possible light rain to thunderstorms... lol??
