Somerset to Rice Lake?
I tried mapping directions from Apple River Campground in Somerset, WI to Northwood Shores in Rice Lake, WI but Google says "Sorry, we could not calculate biking directions from "Apple River Campground (Address)" to "Northwood Shores (Address.)" I got the same error when I tried to go from Northwood Shores to Eagle River Campground in Chippewa Falls, WI.
Does anyone know why? Is there a section of this route that's not bicycle friendly?
I switched my destination to Shady Rest Campground also in Rice Lake and it gave me directions there. It also gave me directions the opposite way. They basically cover the same roads. US 53 if I'm not mistaken.

Looks like the Googlemap bicycle routing function does not want to route onto hwy53. I can select and move the destination flag around but when I try to place it anywhere near your destination the Google mapping program does not allow me to place the pin to any spot that requires bicycle travel on hwy-53.

It has been several years since I've been up to Rice Lake, but by using the streetview in Googlemaps you can see it is not a controlled access highway so it "should" be open to bicycle and foot travel. Just be careful on it due to a lot of truck and tourist traffic on it. I was on hwy53 on my motorcycle several years ago and almost got tangled up with a large delivery truck crossing the freeway who decided to cross in front of me (I almost clipped his front bumper with my left foot at 60+mph). Looks like you can take the frontage road and then hop onto the highway for a relatively short distance to get to the access roadway to the campground.
Think of highway53 in Wisconsin as similar to highway2 over Steven's Pass or highway18 going into the Cascades, open to bikes but can get sketchy at times (I used to live southeast of Seattle east of Renton decades ago). The Wisconsin Bike Federation puts out a set of maps for Wisconsin that might be nice to have.

Hope this helps a little.

In my OP I stated that on the way out Google Maps had me taking US53 and I was mistaken. Google Maps has me avoiding US53. I realized this when I zoomed in closer to my destinations.
Photos attached - One of the route from Somerset to Rice Lake and the other from Rice Lake to Chippewa Falls. Both showing how they avoid US53.

My wife has relatives up fairly close to Rice Lake so when we are near there we always stop in at Norske Nook | Delicious Norwegian Cooking and Award-Winning Pies for some pie and lunch or dinner, and sometimes more pie. Did I say that they have good pies?
You might look at some of the routing used by a few of the Wisconsin bike tours like the Bike Ride Across Wisconsin. They might pick up some roads and avoid others for reasons that I don't know about.

I grew up in Germany but I was actually born at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. We lived there and then Chetek before I moved to Germany at a young age. My grandpa owned a very successful restaurant in Cameron for awhile called The Three Little Pigs BBQ. Closed in the late 90's/early 00's.

HWY 53 is pretty much an interstate, I would not ride a bicycle on it. I agree, go to the WISDOT site and you can download the maps by the county, PDF's, they are what I use as I ride around the state. If you have a smartphone, you can save them on it and zoom in and get a good view of the roads. Color-coded as to traffic volume.
