Piqua, Ohio.
Rounded up, it's north Dayton.
Rounded up again, it's the bustling hub of the Greater Columbus/Cincinnati/Indianapolis/Ft. Wayne Metropolitan Region.
But really, it's just Piqua, Ohio.

I used to do a nice 38-40 miler around the lake. You should head up and check it out sometime. Flat, windy, but the lake is nice - and you can pick up a few beers and after ride wings at the local converted McDonald's (you know it's a small town when the McDonald's goes out of business....)

Are your weeklong rides done in Ohio? I did XOBA last year and will be doing it again this year.

Welcome! I used to live in St Marys, OH just up the road from you. Used to ride a lot in the St Marys, Celina, Wapakoneta, New Bremen area.

Why, you may ask? Well, last spring I got the brilliant idea that when my new car needed warranty service up at the Ford dealership in Lima, I'd take the bike with me and ride back south to work in Troy. I had a miserable 15mph headwind the entire way and a baked in an unseasonably high mid-May temperature of 87 degrees (record was 92).
Then, two days later when the car was done, since I had no car, I had to ride back up to Lima on an unseasonably cold (low 40s) and miserably rainy day with, yep... 15 mph headwinds.
Two of the most miserable days of riding I have ever done, and I can still hear my response to the service manager when she offered me a loaner.
"I don’t need a loaner, I’m riding back on my bike"
Seriously... the lake and area is nice. I grew up in Fostoria and know all about flat and windy. I head up to do the HHH every year (no, not that one, the other one - Hancock Horizontal Hundred in Findlay).

Howdy in St. Mary's. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I will likely never ride north of my regular Piqua-Minster route again. Ever.

I hear you on the headwind. That is the only place I seriously had to take the wind into huge consideration when choosing a route. It was windier than even the Chicago area. I think Chicago would be worse, but all of the development slows the wind down.
I was riding just South of the St Marys Wapak line (33A) when I had my worst moment in cycling history. I was headed pure East when I got a 30-40mph head wind - constant. It was all I could do to keep the bike upright and straight. I was peaking in my lowest gear, and honestly just trying to stay on the road. Took forever to even get 5 miles down the road.

Typically I ride 1-2 week long rides per year. Since I've done GOBA about a dozen times, I usually pick an out of state ride. These have included GRABAWR, TRIRI-twice, CNC in North Carolina-three , Cycle South Carolina, Door County self contained, RAGBRAI-twice, BRAT, and Shorlines West. Am planning on doing GOBA this year because it's in some of the most scenic parts of the state including Amish country and hills. More of a tourist than a roadie ... there are too many interesting places and people that one misses if one just put his head down and turns pedals.

I'm on the other side of the lake from St. Mary's....Celina. Actually, west of there (on the Indiana line). Just started riding last summer. Didn't ride much in the winter and now I'm paying for it when I do ride.
My longest ride last year was around the lake, but I only saw the water when we started and finished....lol. Took the long way around.
Since I'm basicly a new rider, what is the TDC? I'm definately planning on the Hancock Hundred and had thought about the Livestrong Challenge in PA but don't think I have the conditioning for the climbing or the time to be ready for it by August.
Hope to find some other area riders so that maybe we could start an occasional weekend ride. No hammering for me yet though.
Nice to meet you all.

looks like I'll see you there.
I may even drag my mother along for the ride, as she's been eyeing a Trek Lime lately. Apparently she likes the design and idea of it's ease of use. Just not sure one would keep up on a 25 mile ride, so we'll see.
Either way I should be there, most likely with the Kestrel. I'm up for a decent 25 mile ride I think.

Hi everybody. I'm in Cleveland, on the westside. Almost all of my riding is urban. Commuting to work, the store and errands make up the biggest part of my riding. I do like to get out to the towpath in summer for more relaxed riding. So far my riding is solo although I would like to ride with others later on.

Hello all. I'm in Schaumburg...close to Busse Woods (nice ride). A good ride for those that like a faster ride is the Harper ride (www.harperRide.net) named for starting at Harper college on Saturdays. Goes 36 miles and is faster than your average ride (at least the average rides I have been on in my 2 years of riding). You will be dropped if slower but normally there are multiple riders that are dropped and there are short cuts so you can re-connect with the group. Other group rides in the area??

North of Columbus, OH. I've ridden the trail along the river from Westerville down to OSU campus a few times, looking for more trails starting on North side or North of C'bus. I'm ok sticking to the country roads in Delaware County, but wondering if there are more bike paths for road biking.
