Anywhere outside of the city can be okay... I haven't checked out any southeast trails tho. I will have to look into that.

I lived in Kalamazoo for 3 years getting my Undergrad at WMU. Just graduated from WMU downtown grand rapids campus with my MBA. Kzoo is a nice little city!

Actually just 8 miles west of Grand Ledge. But I travel the bay city/flint/saginaw area daily, and see lots of neat trails up that way.
I'm definitely beginner status in durability, having returned to cycling after 20 years of fast food

I'm from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. There are lots of fine bike trails around here and it's very friendly to bike commuters. I generally bike to and from work (24 mile RT) twice a week.

Hangover Park, IL

I am right on the Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Bartlett, Hangover Park border. Hangover Park is great if you are looking to increase your cadence, as you need to pedal a bit faster than usual so you don't end up on the news as yet another victim Possibly looking at hooking up with some groups to do some riding. I am a cycling noob and I love it. Average cadence for 30 mile ride is about 80, avg speed is about 14. I know I can probably do more with a group and when pushed. I am far from being in the best of shape as I was one of those whacky weight lifter dudes who put on the pounds trying to be a bad arse. My bikes aren't extravagant. I commute on a Trek 7.3 FX and I road ride on a Trek 1.2T (great bike except for the shifters, silly thumb trigger). Both were purchased pretty much 1 year ago, and I have done around 1,000 miles since then. I am looking to average at least 300 miles a month if not more, just because it is fun. I am not trying to get in shape, but I will take that benefit from riding. I might be interested in some racing, but I just enjoy riding. I have a love hate relationship with hills, and Bateman road has thus far been my favorite place to ride.

OK, enough blabbering

I don't know how I could miss this stickied thread. I don't think I've posted in it before...anyways.

<---- Isaac (real name). Waterford/Wind Lake/Muskego, WI area. Watch for me on the roads on the old Raleigh with RSX brifters. I'm usually, well, always solo(no serious biking friends). I also try to get back 'home' where I grew up, between Eau Claire and LaCrosse, WI.

Saw this thread in a search for something completely unrelated. I'm in Schaumburg NW Chicago burbs. riding just an inexpensive Fixed gear or a vintage Schwinn Suburban. I use them for local commuting for errands and for fitness. I normally ride the Fixed doing 10-15 miles daily during the week and 25-30 miles a day weekends.

I am near Roberts WI - 30 mi. East of St Paul. I usually ride 20-40 mile loops a couple times a week from home on a network of quiet township and county roads that are some of the finest in the country. Recreational rider with a love for touring but I don't get a chance to do it enough.

Hey everyone

I'm out in northwest Chicago suburbs -- Wheaton, Winfield, Warrenville area. I'm new to cycling. Generally, I go out solo due to work and trying to pursue a graduate degree. But I'd love to hook up and go for a ride. Take it easy.

I am always free for a ride pretty much. I am near you and typically ride in the area. We group ride out of Prairie Path Cycle on Monday nights, recovery ride, for 25 miles at a 16 to 18 MPH pace. Tuesday night people tend to head out to Barrington Hills (Penny Road Pub) for a nice, fast paced 30 mile ride that is hilly and painful. Also on Thursdays I try to hook up with a fast group that leaves from Bartlett High School for about 25 miles as well.

Monday @ 6pm
Tuesday @ 5:30pm
Thursday @ 6pm

If you are ever out and see someone dressed up like a tennis ball, that is me. Bright yellow jersey, black and yellow bibs, all matching with socks I tend to follow the ABD/Prairie Path Cycle routes on most of my solo rides as it is a nice rolling and decent distance ride.

That sounds great. I'll definitely consider it! Problem is that I've been taking a summer class Monday nights so I likely won't be able to participate until the tail end of the summer.

Haha, not sure if I have enough confidence yet to go out on fast group rides with my lowly Trek 7.2 FX hybrid. What pace are those Tuesday night rides out in Barrington? Is there a resource that shows any ABD/Prairie Path Cycle routes for me to scope out?

Thanks for the tips; I appreciate it.

First off, 7.2 is a fitness bike, not a hybrid I have a 7.3 FX that I use for a commuter. The Monday night ride would be a good place to start out, as I have seen others there with similar bikes to the 7.x series from Trek. The Tuesday night rides out in Barrington are 2 speeds. 5:30pm is kind of fast, but we don't drop anyone. Now you can go out at 6:00pm if you feel like blistering your tires, just make sure you shave your legs first

There isn't a mapped out version of the ABD ride, but it is a nice loop/out-and-back that takes you through Winfield, West Chicago, and Wayne. Roads ridden on include Powis, Smith, Stearns, and Munger. There are others, but my brain is fried right now after mowing the lawn

Thanks, nixternal. I'll try to stop by for one of those Monday rides soon.

Reading some of the newbie-ruins-paceline hate threads makes me a little anxious but I'll take some liquid courage before my first one (kidding). Thanks again.

I live in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, a semi-rural area with a lot of country roads. Also, there are many lakes, some of which have bike trails.
