I'm a newbie in the far north neighborhood of Rogers Park in Chicago. I just upgraded from a Trek 7.2 to a Cannondale Ca-ad 5-9 yesterday and I can't wait to put some miles on it. I commute to work almost everyday to LP via the Lake Front trail.

Trail Riding Newbie here
Hello everyone - Live a few blocks from Loveland/Little Miami Bike Trail in Loveland, Ohio and have been on it twice in 12 yrs. Pathetic, I know. That has all changed. Wife and I upgraded our bike situation last week and are now riding the trail. We had to upgrade our bikes since the kids outgrew their's (they now have our older mountain bikes). Really like the forum, especially the inspiring stories of weight loss and lifestyle changes, which are my prime goals.

You mention that you're "getting back into ridin". Were you a cyclist before?
I'm a triker from Wisconsin. I'd like to plan a bike ride from Milwaukee to Chicago in the near future.
I hear Chicago is very bike-friendly. Is this true?
Where do you do your rides?
Thanks,
Cullen

I'm new to the forum so this thread has perfect timing. I live in Milwaukee, WI and ride my old 98 Raliegh road bike, and my brand new Trek FX 7.1. I hadn't really ridden much in years, but really got back going this year... Working my way to hopefully do a 50 mile ride next year (done a few 25 mile rides this year).

Hey Cullen,
When I was younger I would ride to Kenosha alot, and did some other 100 mile trips. Wont get too into it but I could never seem to find other people with the same interest when I was younger....
ANYWAY I guess Chicago is "bike friendly" I grew up here so I'm used to the idiots on the road (4 & 2 wheels) Like there are painted pathways on streets but people with little cars that are more important than the rest of use seem to like to use them as a passing lane. I generally avoid the main streets.
I ride the lake front a lot, easy to get to from my place and its slow 15-20 miles. The problem is it's kinda crowded.
And since our idiot mayor gave away the meter revenew, the company took out all the meters, now there is noplace to lock up,
I do my main "trainig" and distance rideing up the northshore path. I also did the prairie path a lot when I was younger, I haven't been out that way yet this year...probably later in the season

Hello I recently did a retirement from the construction trades. I bought a bike and now I trail ride starting in Oswego and going everywere i can. I ride between 30 and as much as 80 miles daily. I become so addicted that the first all day rain sent me too the store for a rain suit. I mostly ride alone. My wife will ride one or two days a week with me.

Chagrin Falls, OH
About 20 miles due east of Cleveland, right on the Cuyahoga and Geauga County border. Five miles east of the Chagrin River Valley, which is a beautiful place to ride.

Hello all -
I'm in Lafayette, IN. I've been a BMX rider off and on for a long time and I recently started road biking with the college cycling team. I got my first road bike last week and am still working on settling into it and making adjustments. right now I'm riding about 50 miles over a week, hoping to continue well into the cold weather if I can!

Lose Weight, Bike Great
Well, I have decided at my young age of 23 to get back into shape. I'm from Troy, MI. Born and raised. I recently purchased a 2008 Diamondback Sorrento. My current goal right now is to lose some weight (I'm at 325 lbs), and perform in the whole 62.5 mile ride for the Tour Detroit.
Anyways, my buddy Eric threw me this link. Going to use this to help me out. I need to get new tires, which I plan on getting them in the spring, when I start doing outside training.

Hi kenco12, click on Bike Fourm hot link in the top left corner. If you have not looked around yet there are several areas that might be of interest to you. Many people on this fourm have lost a lot of weight riding. Have fun, if you have any questions just click on a mod's hotlink (blue stars). Welcome Mark.

I posted an introduction in the main intro forum but I might as well here.
I'm 22, originally from KS and now in Chicago, and I commute to the South Loop from Logan Square for school. I've only got a fixie right now (here, anyway) but I'm looking for a geared road bike since I'm planning on doing Bike Across Kansas in June. I'm looking for riding partners my age to do some distance riding!
