I'm from Garden City Michigan, just west of Detroit. Most of my riding is done out on Hines Dr. Waiting to see what kind of rides are in the area for I started this new love of cycling only about four months ago.

Milwaukee WI here, usually ride the Ozaukee Interurban and Oak Leaf Trail. Do a little road riding, not much though. Ride the "Tour de Cure" for diabetes out of Grafton when I can which is all road riding.

Currently living in Kodiak, Alaska...but am being transferred to Grand Haven, MI this summer. Looking forward to getting back to reality - normal bike shops, people that want to ride together, clubs, and organized events!

The scheduled ride(s) are over for this year, but there is a group that rode Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings from Goodspeed Cycles on 183rd St. in Homewood. I think they plan to start up again in April or May. Call the shop (708-957-9888) and talk to or leave a message for Tommy if you want to get on the list to be notified.

Milwaukee, WI

Milwaukee.
I ride 150+ miles/week during the winter, commuting and training, and 300-400 miles/week during nthe spring/summer/fall.

I often ride the Ozaukee Interurban Trail to warm up/cool down/recover. Speaking of recovery, I'm a "recovering" ultra-marathon cyclist from the '80s. I was the creator and director of the 220-mile, one-day "Race Across Wisconsin", and I completed the 700-mile Midwest Qualifier for "Race Across AMerica" back in 1985.

After a near 20 year layoff from the bike (got into speed skating for 10 years until I had a bad crash and got lazy and 30 lbs. heavier), I returned to cycling about 4 years ago, and I'm currently training to break the cross-state Wisconsin record in 2012, set by Fred Boethling (now owner of Race Across AMerica) back in 2002. Fred was 52 when he set that record. I'll be 54. I'll need a good tailwind. ;)

Hi everyone. New to the board, and just started cycling again this past summer after 10 years or so. Live and work in Valparaiso, IN, about 40 southeast of Chicago. Lots of rural roads, many of which are designated bike routes. I'm excited to hear that the poweres that be in Chicago are finally going to try to clean up the SE lakeshore area and try to connect to the Indiana lakeshore trail system. Should make for a great trail! I gotta plug the LBS in downtown Valpo -Jano's. Really great and knowledgable staff!

Hi Blonobikeguy.

SoapPeddler 03-26-12 07:35 AM

Portage MI, just getting back into cycling after being sedentary for about 15 years. I'll also get in a few rides in Watersmeet, MI and Beulah, MI this summer.

Karcas 04-07-12 08:44 PM

New guy here. I'm 27 and from Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Loved being on a bike when I was a kid. I was always running around town on my bike. Well I got older and I lost track of how much I liked it. I also packed on a few pounds after 2 kids, marriage, and getting out of the Army.
I made a resolution to change my life this year. So far I have lost 41.2lbs and am smoke free!
The weight loss is really starting to slow now (I am now 5'10" 171.6lbs). I decided that I needed a new hobby, something that I could really devote myself to, that would also help me stay in shape.

Soooo, I took a drive to my LBS and with my somewhat minimal budget, ordered myself a bike that I thought would be great for me. It was a 2012 Specialized Allez Compact in black/charcoal. I picked it up about two weeks ago and went back a few days later and picked up a seat bag and spare tube, Co2 inflator, tools, helmet, shoes, blah blah blah.

Well after I got everything I ordered and had things all ready to go, I finally took her out for her maiden voyage! I did 16 miles my first day out. Right away the next morning I hopped back on and put another 22.5 miles on (sit bones were a bit sore for the first mile or so).
I decided I wanted a little more bike... nicer components than the Shimano 2300 that was on the Allez and I thought a 10 speed would be nice.

So back to the store I went and this time I test rode 4 or so more bikes. Turns out I like SRAM components (not really the apex though)
I ended up returning the Allez and ordering a 2012 CAAD10-4 in bare aluminum. I can't wait for it to get here!

I am really committing to this!! I want to ride about 150-200 miles a week.

Sorry for being so long winded haha... any advice from you guys? Any online shops that are good to work with (not that my local shop isn't great!)? A motivational speech perhaps? I kid I kid

Thanks

My family goes to Beulah every year. Gorgeous area. The grainery(spelling?) is probably my favorite store of all time.

Anyways, I'm new from Aurora, IL. Also starting out after a long break from riding and a fairly sedentary lifestyle.

My mom and dad lived in Griffith from 1973 to 2009. There is a great bicycle trail that runs right through Griffith, from Highland to Crown Point. It's the Erie Lackawanna. There is also a trail that starts in Griffith and goes to Hobart. Except for the broken beer bottles on a section in Gary we enjoyed it too. Both trails are paved.

Waiting On The weather

I live in Garden City Michigan. I wish the weather would make up its mind for riding has became my new passion. Many say its warm enough to get out there riding but I do it for pleasure. If I was training for a race or so it would be a little different. as soon as I do start riding, I will be training for a centry ride.

whiskeredrider 05-02-12 08:44 PM

"3bluebikes" I am itching to ride that bike trail. When I went to visit my girl up there it's all I've talked about. I ride long distances almost daily. And am looking forward to riding around up there. I am going to avoid Gary as much as possible. Not to offend anyone from that part of the world. But I don't feel like being murdered anytime soon.

NorCalVelo 05-19-12 07:05 AM

I'm currently living in Grafton, WI. Moved here 8 months ago from my beloved Napa Valley to be closer to the MIL. She's in her 80's now and in need of our assistance. I just started commuting to my job in Mequon 2 weeks ago. Would love to find some locals to ride with.
