If I still had my MP3, I'd be listening to Rage Against the Machine, Buck Cherry, RHCP, Audioslave, Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, Kid Rock, Nine Inch Nails, the Scorpions and Mars Volta. That's only for energetic rides.

Anything metal will do.

Pink Floyd. I have all their studio albums, every live album, every solo album, and a ton of bootlegs stuffed into my iPod.

Lots of Led Zeppelin and Tool, too.

I just listen to the music in my head. :)

headphones + riding = no good

stick with a large boombox duct-taped to a rear rack. Way more street cred and a little safer.

The type doesn't matter, I just load up a list of favorites, and they run the gamut.

I never listen to music while riding, i feel it is a disturbance. I have to be alert at all times while riding in my area, if i make one wrong move or decision i am ran over and considered dead. Lots of bad drivers in my area, only one of them have to run me over though.

3 posts later, we get your drift. I don't listen to music on group rides, but riding solo, I do. Usually the wind nois keeps me from hearing a car until it's up to me anyway, so I don't see how an ear bud in my right ear hurts much. That, and I do have a mirror, which I find more useful than my ears for alerting myself to other bikes and vehicles. I'm not a superfast rider, but how slow do you have to go to not have wind noise obstructing your sense of hearing?

I've had the same problem, Shemp. Mostly it seems that wind noise keeps me from hearing much of anything. I tried getting these Slipstreamz things, but I haven't had much luck. Despite what the site says, they're not iPod specific, and you can actually wear them to screen out some of the wind noise even if you're not wearing earbuds. However, they don't stay on well, they're REALLY picky as to how the helmet straps sit, and generally they never sat right on me.

Anyway, I agree that wind noise is as much of a problem as headphones could ever be, except that I can turn my head to cut the wind if I want to hear.

Listening to music affects my: Hearing, reflexes, hand-eye coordination, i tend to not pay attention to other vehicles while riding. I am just one of those people who can only do one thing at once, never great at multi-tasking. Not agaisnt any-one who plays music while riding, i just prefer not to.

No music when I'm on the street. On the trainer . . . it depends on my mood. Rock, Techno, what ever "strikes my fancy."

When on a trainer its Alice Cooper and Motley Crue. On the trail its me and mother nature.

I listen to podcasts as often as music. When it's music.... it's heavy.

I listen to a lot of classical on my ipod when I'm out riding. Beethoven, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff, etc... I also listen to a lot of NPR news. But sometimes it's nice to ride with no sound track at all. Just cruising out in the country with the wind and the crickets and the birds can be nice.

Although I usually do have a "soundtrack" of sorts running through my head when I'm biking, usually whatever catchy nonsense song I last heard that won't get out of my head. Sometimes I can "change the channel"; I find heavy metal type stuff makes it easier to set PB speed records.

I listen to James Brown and Manhattan Transfer. You can't go slow when listening to those folks.

I have only brought my iPod once, and left one ear bud out... It is really not worth the risk. But when working out, I plug my iPod into the stereo and usually play Saosin, Bullet for my Valentine, or CKY

I bought a little speaker thing to plug ipod into for front of bike. Everyone hears me comin'! lol Some try to keep up to hear my fun tunes but not too many can. ;)
I listen to all sorts of stuff, old & new, I have a couple odd songs on it too that are a riot on the trail when I sing em loud.
