We'll see about the metric. Haven't been on the bike very much lately. Did 25 today and it was tough. Hope to be ready for a metric at the BFNIC ride.

Yeah, the metric is a must. Nice flat roads, nice scenery, you're up for it. Heck, if I bail on the full century, I'll even suck your wheel for the whole ride. ;)

Add one more to the metric. Maybe all of the century riders will be jealous of our coolness and do a metric instead of a full ;)

It's looking like I might be able to join this ride. Who's up for an Elgin area carpool?? :)

Yes! The two charter BFNIC members are planning to attend the North Shore Century. Very exciting indeed :D

Should be a great ride and I look forward to seeing everyone! Later.

Kimbercop 09-06-06 03:23 PM

I'm in for the carpool too. Ive got the fullsize truck, can easily get 3 bikes/people inside...Just not sure where to park it.

If we are shooting for a 7:00 meeting time at the registration desk then there is a few lots close to the start on the website and also plenty of street parking.

Last year I parked at a parking garage just inside campus about a block away from the start. No worries.

Kimbercop 09-06-06 08:48 PM

I'm just worried about the height of the garage more than anything..I always worry about scraping the roof of parking garages with my baby

I parked at a Northwestern "garage" a couple years ago that was a block or two from the start. I say "garage" because there was a small ramp up to the parking, but it was not covered.

No height concerns at this "garage" and close to the start point.

+1 - That's the "garage" I was talking about.

Kimbercop 09-07-06 09:42 AM

Well then, no worries mate.

Psimet & Cylowe:

I'm sorry, I have been suffering from a horrendous case of Cranial Rectal Inversion Syndrome, (Head up the butt). I can't carpool in with you guys for the North Shore, I'm not riding the whole thing and dont want to wait around the extra hour and a half ( ), It'll take you guys to do the extra 50 miles.

C'mon now. We'll only be an extra hour and five minutes..... tops.

Good catch. :o

Kenal0 09-07-06 11:30 AM

I am sure Phil Ligget has some expression for when the Peleton gets a little angry and picks up the pace as our Peleton will with 50 to go.

Psimet2001 09-07-06 01:42 PM

The only thing Phil would ever say if he saw me ride would go something like this:

"OOOOOHHHHH! Looks like the motor has gone in that one. He's feeling it in every pedal stroke now. You know I'm starting to wonder if he'll even make it to the feed zone at this point."

Yeah, Kimbercop, when you volunteered I was thinking..."Hmmm. He must have something else he wants to do in the area after he's done. He'll have like 3 hours to wait for us...."

Drag 09-07-06 02:47 PM

I'm only gonna do 25. I should be finishing up at the same time Kimbercop gets done with his 50. :D

S_DOG34 09-07-06 03:46 PM

Any chance you want to carpool with me kimbercop? I will be doing the same distance as you and I am sort of on your way to Evanston.

Kimbercop 09-07-06 06:58 PM

S-Dog34, I dont think that should be a problem.

I asked some of the guys I ride with from work today and might be getting 2-3 of them there too.

As we get closer to the date/time, I'll PM you and we can work out the details.

On a lighter side..

I GOT MY GARMIN EDGE TODAY!!!

Hooray, working on the setup right now, hoping to be good to go for my commute tommorrow morning.

Kenal0 09-07-06 07:06 PM

I have my Garmin Edge since they came out. It is awesome. It does everything. Grade % is cool one to use on one of the 3 screens that you can set up. The only question mark is battery life but it lasts for a century and I do not anticipate going any farther anyway so it is not an issue.
It will work very nice on that North Shore Metric Century ride coming up.

Psimet2001 09-07-06 08:45 PM

:(

Aham23 - Garmin
Kenal0 - Garmin
Kimbercop - Garmin

...Psimet2001 - No Garmin....(notice I am green)

S_DOG34 09-07-06 09:14 PM

Does the Garmin use rechargeable batteries?

Hmm...I was thinking about getting the Cateye CD300DW but maybe I will cash in my overdue birthday present for a Garmin instead.

How do you like the Garmin?

Kimbercop 09-07-06 09:18 PM

I just got it today, havent rode with it yet, but I havent heard a lot of negatives. Yes its rechargable, either with the charger cord or the usb connection to the computer..It's been described on these forums as the coolest tech toy for riding.
