North Shore Century Anyone?
Anyone going to ride the Northshore Century which starts in Evanston IL, goes up to Kenosha Wi and back on Sept 17th? Relatively flat course.

This one has been on my scedule of "must do" for a while. I look forward to big BFNIC turnout! Later.
|
Maybe part, but not the whole thing, still not ready for a century.
|
I will be there with bells on. I did it last year and enjoyed it. Great scenery, nice lumbering ride.
Between the Oswego century 2 weeks ago, the Cream City one this last weekend, my scouting of the route for the 1st annual BFNIC century that I will be scouting this weekend, the Harmon Hundred, the North Shore Century, and the BFNIC century....that will make 6 centuries in 6 weeks..... ....hmmm.... |

If I end up losing one due to negotiations at home it will be the Harmon Hundred. |
I see they have already marked this course with bright orange spray paint.
I was out today on a portion of the course. I am riding another section tomorrow. We should have be able to muster a good showing from the BF members. kenal0 |
Cool. I am really looking forward to this ride. Something different then corn fields will be a nice change. Later.

Yeah you get to deal with tons of city cyclists ;)! In most rides the talk is about riding or the weather, etc....last year I got a "Nice kit. I like how it matches your bike" - followed by a non-verbal invitation to race....
:D - can't wait. |
Anyone looking less than the full century?? Anyone familiar with the routes? Is it possible for someone doing less that the centruy to hang with the others for a while or what?
|
The route is similar to an "out and back" so the shorter routes stick with the century route until half way I believe....
I save every cue sheet so let me look for this one and check.... |
I am definately in for less than a century. Me legs have been on the shelf for a bit this summer.

I am in on this ride. It should be my first attempt at a full century.
The routes do stick together for awhile. The 50 mile route goes to the first rest stop with the 62 and 100 (about 15 miles in). After the rest stop, the 50 mile breaks off from the 62 and 100 after a couple of miles. I am not sure how long the 62 sticks with the 100 though. Instead of heading North like the 62 and 100 mile routes, the 50 miler heads north east and than heads back down south with the last 20 miles or so of the 62 and 100 mile routes. As Ken pointed out, the markings were put down over the weekend and the route looks to be the same as the past couple years. One not for those planning to ride. The route goes down Skokie Blvd. in Northbrook for about a 1/2 mile or so. I work on Skokie Blvd. and we just received a notice that Skokie Blve. is going to be under construction starting on Sept. 11th. They are going to rip up the pavement and do a full resurfacing. Given the timing of the NSC, Skokie blvd. may have the top layer of pavement ripped off by the 17th and be the "ROUGH SURFACE". I have run into this a few times in my rides the past week and it is a lot of road vibration. Hopefully it won't be too bad and as I say, it is only a short distance. |

Starting to wonder about this one. I'll be at Northwestern all week and the following one too, and staying in Evanston while there. Not looking forward to getting up early, (on my B-Day), driving to Evanston, riding, returning home, hanging out for a bit, (aka homework the training I'm attending is very intense) then returning to Evanston later in the afternoon for training the next morning.
But Mrs cop says I can, so I'm still thinking, (cant you smell the smoke)? |
I have to check with the Mrs. but I maybe in for a 25 miler for this one. :)
|
OK, forget all the innane chatter from me a few posts ago about all my personal problems. I'm not at Northwestern until the 25th, so I am definately in for the North Shore. Probably try for a 50 again..

You know it is just a tad further for the Metric and it is pretty flat for that additional 12 miles. Kenal0 |
Kenal0: You are a wicked wicked man, I think I like you already..
We'll see about the metric. Haven't been on the bike very much lately. Did 25 today and it was tough. Hope to be ready for a metric at the BFNIC ride. |
Come on Kimbercop you can do it. Just jump on a wheel and hold on for the Metric!!!
