I rode with these guys for the first time a week ago at the North Shore Century in Evanston and we were cruising along in the 18-22 mph range for the first 20 miles (before we split up to take different routes). I ride solo in the 15-17 mph range and had no problems hanging with them. Don't worry about speed...just come out and have some fun!

I've got a Cro-Mo mountain bike, so my limited stable does include The Steel. Thing weighs about 50 pounds!

Now if you've got something in a 57-58" Ti road frame, we're in business!

BTW, for those concerned with my clipping-in abilities based on the North Shore ride, I will be on more modern pedals for this ride. The Keos have finally arrived from the UK.

Sounds like fun. Hope anyone sitting on the fence decides to do the ride.

Sorry I can't make it. But we SoCal folk will be thinking of you as a bunch of us ride the Tour de Poway together.

Well thats good, so I'll have to join one of these rides. We probably are already passing each other on the bike path...

What did you think of the NSC? We were surprised they ran out of gatorade and water up in Kenosha. It was good weather, but the wind was pretty strong coming back in Kenosha, didn't you think

I wussed out with Kimber and we only did the 50 mile loop, so never did get into Wisconsin. From the post-ride reports (the endless whining and so forth from certain BFNIC members... j/k) I am glad that I opted out of the century. It sounds like it was total hell coming back South. The 50 mile loop was an absolute joy though...almost entirely residential and no real wind to speak of.

Too much pressure

OKOKOK! I'm in...for the century. I can't just keep reading about you guys doing this. BUT, I'm counting on you all to make it worth my while. No pressure, but I already spent 15 big ones to register for the Pie ride in Ottawa. And I'll be misssing out on that piece of pie, too! I have to warn you though, I've never ridden in a paceline, but I'll try anything once (and things I like, to excess). So...anything in particular I need to know beforehand?

And by the way, Juliette, NICE bike (I have the same bike)

Hey, I dropped $20 for the Apple Cider Century last December and I'm skipping that ride to stay home for the BFNIC ride!

Don't worry, we've never ridden in a paceline, either. Just remember this.... do not overlap with the wheel in front of you. We're not some crazed club demanding a perfect rotating line or anything. It's about a good ride

And I have to add to the above.... wind on the NSC? I don't remember any wind.... Geez, Psimet, it's like we never rode the Spring Forward back in March. Now that was wind. Cracking 10 mph felt like speeding that day!

+1 - and when you're married they cease being events you celebrate and become more like events you fear forgetting.

So is the cookout/potluck a go, then? What do they have on tap at the forest preserve to go with brats, dogs, and chips ? Seriously, can you have beer at the forest preserve? I mean, if I'm doing my first century, chips and beer are one of my favorite ways to celebrate!

CyLowe called the Forest Preserve for me and the Shelter is already reserved for Sunday. If we do an after ride meal it will have to be more like tailgating. As for an after-ride beer...I am all for that. My wife will be meeting us at the end (getting a ride) so I will have no worries.

I'm busy putting together the route sheets, and BFNIC jersey proofs, etc....so if someone else on here wants to head up coordinating a possible after-ride meal/cookout....have at it. Otherwise I'll be there hanging out with whomever wants to stick around....at least for a while....

EDIT: I think it is against Kane County Forest Preserve policy/rules to have any alcohol in the preserve....so I "won't" be bringing any alcohol with me . That would be un-ethical and a violation of park policy.

....right Kimbercop??

Thanks for the offer Kimbercop, but my friend rides a singlespeed and has not ridden much more than 11 miles. So I think a 31 mile ride would be too much of a increase for her. I hope this ride is a success because I want to ride in one and meet the local forum members.

Good luck with the ride and have a great time!!

Is anyone particularly familiar with the ride area who could organize things? I like the idea of a cookout or some kind of post-ride activity, so I am definately on board and would be happy to bring something.

Got the cue sheets done today. PM me if you have to have a copy to load one of them new fangled GPS gizmos. If you don't need it for that then just hang on until Sunday. I made a lot of copies and I don't feel like wasting them.
