innovative Chicago paths...

The Bike 2015 plan is a great plan that can benefit Chicago riders. If any Chicago rider has not seen or read it, please do. I spoke with a Chicago engineer for the city this week and he mentioned that there is a study being done to test the feasibility of converting an old elevated freight railroad route to a green way with bike path.

While this path will only be a few miles (2-4???) it can provide many people who risk their necks riding several miles on the street to the lakefront for a safe(er) ride. In addition it will utlilize wasted deindustrial space that is just an eyesore.

Has anyone had any experience with similar plans? I have heard NYC had done something like this but I have only confirmed rumors...also, does anyone know anything more concrete about this proposed bloomington line route?

I live near Chicago & Western and this route is like 1800 N...no idea where the beginning or end would be...

thanks! hope someone can help...

I think there was a report about the plan on NPR a while back. Maybe on "848" in the morning. They discussed the New York project (I think). You might check their site to see if there is anything still online about it. chicagopublicradio.org or NPR.org

I would check for you, but both sites are block from my current connection. Don't want any culture to leak in.

Thanks, I'll look into it.

Sorry to hear the culture police making life difficult. I'm a teacher and CPS blocks the NY Times, several human rights orgs and a few other odd sites...

At least you can communicate with the other inmates here...like tapping a metal spoon on the bars.
