Joliet Sudden Century - May 6th - BFNIC meet up

Lots of talk about this weekend's BFNIC ride, but let's not lose sight of some other opportunities to meet up.

Sunday May 6th is the Joliet Cycling Club's Sudden Century

Linky... https://www.jolietbicycleclub.org/Inv...ury/scinfo.htm

Who's in? Looking for about a 7:15 am start from the Rialto Theatre.

I'm pretty sure aham23 will be there to celebrate the one year anniversary of his first century, as well as to provide the rest of us a big pull through the wind on the century loop out near Beecher.

If you've never ridden 100 miles before, this is a great one to give a try. It's flat as a pancake and we're all about providing moral and mental support along the way. Plus, they've got the Chicagoland Speedway lap included this year! I plan to have the camera in my pocket so I can foment all kinds of anti-Nascar comments in the ride reports.

ah yes, my first century and my first meet up with a fellow BFNIC'er.

the anticipation, the nerves, the joy, the pain, the dropped chains, the Beecher loop, the moral support Psimet provided via cell phone, the lady with the bag and u-lock.......what a glorious day that was.

i am so there. later.

I'd have waited, but there was a bucket of KFC with my name on it after I finished that day and I didn't want it to get cold.

You planning on riding the century? We always have fun meeting up with other folks from bikeforums, if you're up for riding all or part of the way with us.

I'll hopefully be able to make it. The BFNIC was fun today. This will be my first century. My longest ride to date has only been a 75mi solo ride. I'm sure I could use the moral support and windbreaks

Pull my finger.

I'm looking forward to the ride, but not the mileage. I've clipped rides of 100K+ on both of the last weekends, as well as having commuted into work (50 miles RT), but I just don't know if I have the extra miles in me this early for a century.

Only one way to find out though....

I have a buddy or two that might be joining up. Speedy might come, but I told him we're riding at a reasonable pace. I don't think my budy has a lot of miles in his legs yet. Then again he's ridden the RAIN like 4 times, and the Hilly Hundred probably close to 10 times.

CAN'T WAIT!

This guy is Shider on crack (my apologies if you are already on crack Shider). I didn't drink for the first hour because I couldn't take my hands off of the bars. I think there are ridges in the bars from my fingers.

At one point we were going into the wind at 25, he was pulling, I was red-lined just hanging second wheel, and he just pulls away. Turns out there was a rider about 1/5 mile up and he instinctually went after him.

Nice!, nothing like these BFNIC casual rides to meet new people who enjoy riding as much as you do. I know once it goes to a single paceline, I am in for a long fast day.
See you at the Kenosha Racine ride.

Yeah, I'll see you guys sail off into the sunset if that's the plan for Sunday. I'm not killing myself for a tour of frickin' flat Will County.

I just want to ride around the racetrack and make loud carbuerated engine sounds.

... Oh, it'll be three wide into Turn One, I guarantee. Too bad that track only has two good grooves for racin'.

Something will have to give, and I predict Psimet will be doing a Giro Atmos v SAFER barrier test before it's all said and done.

It's never too early to worry Psimet about the weather....

"Mostly cloudy, warmer and more humid with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Gusty south winds."

Humid? Showers? Thunderstorms? These are just media hype buzzwords. We all know the media are a bunch of liars, right?

So you're saying I might have a chance of holding on to your wheel for 50 miles instead of the usual 25 before I get dropped?
