50.50 miles today. Very nice day to ride (despite what a certain member said).
This has to be my longest ride in at least a month. Embarassing, I know.

10/21 - I rode the 29er tonight with no bike computer, so I'm estimating that I got somewhere around 10 -12 miles. I can tell you for certain that I ended up with 100% satisfaction.

Rode my new commuter (Bianchi San Jose) home from work today. So far so good. Just a few rides with it, but I am slowly getting in line to drink the Kool-Aid with all those who preach on about the plush ride you get out of a steel frame.

10/20 for 21. The usual out and back route on the MUP. Locked up the tires braking for a stupid squirrel who couldn't decide where he wanted to go. Twitchy *******s. A couple of weeks ago I saw a guy snap a carbon fork and go down hard when he hit a squirrel.
The weather was gorgeous - mid 50s and bright/sunny. I love the fall. I've noticed already that it's a bit too chilly for some people - traffic seems to have thinned out a bit.

I took my computer off today, and I'll be training with no data for the rest of the winter, hopefully I'll figure out what's ailing my PowerTap in that time and get it re-laced to a better rim.
I think about 35 miles, I did a lot of intense efforts. I did The Kilo on a stretch of road I know and I had to have been doing 35+mph for the duration, because I passed two cars. That was the closest to 02 Debt I've been since last winter. I also worked on my climbing legs again, and I'm feeling a little bit better. MTB'ing really helps you learn how to climb, because you're used to long, drawn out climbs that with the slightest change of cadence will put you on your feet.

Long story short...I failed. I finished the marathon, however, what I thought was an insignificant tweaking of my knee/ankle at about mile 5-6 came back to haunt me in a big nasty way. By mile 12 I was DEEEEEP in the pain cave and by mile 15 I could barely walk. I shuffled until mile 19 where I stopped in an aid tent and spent half an hour icing my ankle and waiting for the tylenol they gave me to kick in. I got back out on the road in the heat and was able to speed walk for a while. Finally, by the time I got to mile 24 I said to hell with it and started running/gimping along for the last 2+ miles. I crossed the line in tears, but I was technically running. Final time 4: 50:57 which was good enough to finish ahead of 14K other runners, but well off of my goal of 3:30, which I was well on my way to achieving until this happened. I had every intention of making this race a one time deal, but I spent too much time training to not have been able to do what I set out to do. So I am coming back in '09
The upside is that aside from the poor performance the remainder of the race experience was incredible. I have never been around crowds that big and the energy they produce is palpable. I was almost overcome with emotion when I turned onto Addison near Wrigley. It was simply unreal. I only hope that next year I can focus entirely on the crowds and the event and the other runners and not on some injury.

10/22-50 miles. Riding downtown at night is awesome! When I got back it was 38 brrr. Luckily Allegheny_Jet let me borrow his gloves(a life saver-Thank You).
My toe defrostation took about 30 min in the shower. The process went from nothing to burning, to ow my toes are on fire, to stinging, to tingling, and back to normal.

10/22 - 20 miles
Damn easterly wind and cold temps this morning around 10:20 a.m. slowed my ride down considerablely. Rode to Lockport. Coming back wasn't too bad. Might go east again tomorrow or more likely next week when it warms up enough again.

10/23 - 20 miles today. I hope it was not the last ride of the season - getting dark and cold next week... kind of sad .... I think I am going to hop over to ski tuning thread to cheer up ;-)

10/23 - 26.1 miles
Rode to New Lenox (half of ride on the Old Plank Road Trail). Waited til early afternoon to head out since it was still cold this morning. Felt somewhat warmer today. Looks doubtful that i'll ride again til mid week next week. Maybe i'll get a few miles in Saturday. Still will hit 3,000 miles for year by Nov. 7th or so.

10/24- I got beat up by an old 40 something man. While Gary went out and rode 50 miles today. I am setting up my trainer right now. I'm going to try for 1 hour.
