7/29- Regular Sunday club ride (Bombay Club, Madison, WI)- rode from home to the ride start, and my group took the scenic route a couple of times. Got back to the finish and my computer said 75 miles. It was a flat route, I was feeling good, and I had some food left so I refilled my bottles and tacked on another 25ish miles for my first century! Total was 100.9 miles and the average was 16.5 mph which is on the low end of normal for me, but I'm pleased. My previous long ride was 70 miles. Everything feels good now, but we'll see about tomorrow!

Same Bombay ride as JB plus one way commute. 83 miles, 17.0 average. Good weather, light winds. Going down the stairs at my house really hurts...

About 15 miles earlier after I got done at the gym. I could have done more, but I had to get back early and grab a shower & dinner before work.

40 miles today... with my new HRM. Target heart rate of 145... kept me at a pace from 16-19mph... yay baby!! :)

dannwilliams 07-30-07 07:59 AM

7/30 25 miles before the wind picked up and still cool out. 18.4 avg. best this year!

7/29 Sunday was nice, warm, little wind. Did 41.4 miles from Delafield to Elkhorn via Palmyra. Have done this ride a few other times, but took a few side roads and added about 5 miles to the route I used to take. Took my time and a couple of longer breaks, just over 3 hours.

John Wilke 07-30-07 01:02 PM

The plan: 20 to 25 miles easy. For breakfast I downed a quick bowl of Cheerios, a bottle of Gatorade, and tossed the bike on the car for an easy ride up and down the bike path (Jolt Trail), with thoughts of then running errands. (to the grocery store, bank, etc.)

Reality: 37 miles and **Bonked!** (Capital 'B', underlined, double asterisk, exclamation point!)

I started as planned, rode up the bike path, then over to a local park a few miles away for fresh water. "Gee, it's such a nice day, I'll just go a little farther." After a half hour I start to bonk and headed out a little more to the nearest soda machine just so I could get back home. Of course once that caffene hit me, I was good to go so I kept going out. It was such a beautiful morning, and now I'm feeling the buzz ... go for it! :)

I find myself riding around Wind Lake, looking at the nice blue water, boats zooming around ... then on through the corn fields, sod farms, riding down the roads with all the farm tractors, and admiring the fit Norwegian girls out for their morning jog. :)

By now I'm 2 hours into it, the Cheerios are long gone, I'm on my second BONK, and I'm seeing double!! I stopped at a small cemetary to get out of sun for a few minutes, then slogged my way back home. about 1hr 20min longer than planned.

I tell 'ya, lunch never tasted so good.

It's been a while since I've done a double-bonk ride. I think I'll try the same route tomorrow, this time prepared, and will bring the camera to share some pics!

:D

two great rides while camping near grafton, il.

Dr_Robert 07-30-07 07:05 PM

27.6 miles in 1:45. Flat to gently rolling, with a few ugly hills at the halfway point. Good ride.

Scummer 07-30-07 08:16 PM

Took a leasure ride today... 1 hour very easy pedaling on the bike.

John Wilke 07-31-07 07:52 PM

Less milage today than planned. Barely squeezed out 20 miles in the 90 degree heat. Not recovered from yesterday's double-bonk plus late night of race spectating in Kenosha.

HEY! - I do 2 a days everytime I commute....

7/31 - Commute. First time since last Monday. Strep throat has had me laid up pretty bad. Today is the first day I felt even remotely able to commute. Felt OK. No speed records broken, but I slapped another 47 miles into my sack of miles for the year.

I'm going to try for another back-to-back commute. We'll see...

Turns out I think the food poisoning was actually the strep. Which means I've had it for over 3 weeks. It kind of went dormant for about 5 days around RAIN. Symptoms were the same and it just felt like someone punched me in the gut. Then the last 2 days before I went to the doc the fever I have been getting off and on throughout this whole time started spiking to 103 in between rounds of 800mg of advil, and my throat started to hurt as well. Neck was stiff, etc...all signs I should really see someone.

Wife, son and I all came out positive for strep. 5 days of antibiotic and I have commuted to work the 50 miles by bike the last two days. Game on.

...EDIT: Oh and the doc gave me a note out of work through today....what are normal people like? Are they really that lazy?

BAD BAD BAD.

Left by 8:30 but it got hot fast. After 33 miles I flatted, rode it one block just to get some shade, put that one in my pocket and installed a new one. Too hot to pump it up rock hard so I rode it soft for 200 meters just to feel a breeze ... and that one flatted. So I thumped my way 2 miles to a nearby park (which was filled with a delightful pack of screaming kids), sat in the can (to get out of the sun) to try and patch the original tube, but gave up after 4 patches cuz it STILL leaked. "Screw it!!", so I doused myself in water, and rode the last 5 miles on a flat rear. At one point, just before reaching the park, I had stopped sweating. It's too hot to ride, don't do it.

40 miles in 3++ hours. A hell of a workout, but way to Eff'n hard!!!

That is a horror story!
Rode 20 miles at a moderate pace then drank a quart of gatorade. Air conditioning is one of the greatest inventions.

I seem to have hit a plateau. My last three 10 mile TT times including today: 27:10, 27:15, 27:11. How on earth I can ride balls out for 10 miles on three separate weeks and end up within 5 seconds on every ride is beyond me. I may redefine consistency!
