July was a gang busters month......August not so much. Only two rides so far. This one was a nice 35 mile Sunday stroll in the heat. Still knocked it out in just under two hours, but the legs were feeling the time off. Later. |

Tonight I rode with the Tuesday group out of Hudson, WI. We do KOM and sprint for town line signs. Guess what? Tonight I got a sprint! Shot my heart rate to 194 to do it. One of the better ride I have done this year. 33+ miles and finished at 16.8. here are the stats:

8/16 - I've taken the Lakeshore Path each morning this week except Monday before work. Cut it short to ~30 minutes twice b/c of early meetings (Tuesday's ride was surreal b/w the dark and rain - runners and cyclists kept appearing from the haze) but did a nice little tt loop once for 12 mi...will be out tomorrow morning, too. It's now about a week into returning to riding after almost five months off; the improvement is very slow.

8/16 15 mile taper ride. I was planning on going 25, but I had to cut it short since my little saddle bag dislocated itself on one side and I didn't wanna risk loosing it.
|
^^^^ what are you tapering for?
man i hope to get out and ride today! later. |

8/17 - yes
Mid August riding malaise has been in full effect this week, but I forced myself to take a lunchtime ride today. Glad I did. It's gorgeous outside today. |
Yes!!!!!
The kids are at Grandma's and Grandpa's. I have the day off. I did a beautiful ride though Bull Valley, around the lake, to Woodstock and Bull Valley again. I got my haircut at Slim's, a couple of tacos at La Rosita (rated the best in the NW by the Trib) and stopped in Wheelwerks for the first time. It's a new, upscale LBS in Crystal Lake, the owner was very nice. He sells Orbeas, Sevens, Waterfords - good stuff. Now I must clean the garage, basement and cut the lawn. The day can't be completely fun.:) |
Yesterday, I did 36 miles and this morning I did 28 miles, trip cut short with a side trip to the LBS to get a new front tire, a Continental Contact to replace an aging stock tire with cracks on the sidewall. I went from 35 to a 32 and noticed an improvement in handling and speed. Still debating if I should do the Wright ride on Sunday.

45 minutes easy. First ride in about 10 days. Chilly, jacket, rained through most of it, and I got pretty wet but it was great!. Felt good to pedal. Quite a few others out too. Rode from Sheridan Park on Milwaukee's east side to South Shore Yacht club and around a bit.

When will it stop raining. Had to go out really didn't want too but had too.

8/26 - 46 miles
decided last night that since the weather was going to be perfect today, i would do the bull valley/hebron ride. left my house this morning around 6:30am with arm and knee warmers on. legs felt good. unfortunately, rawson bridge road is closed because of the river rise, so i had to take an alternate route to get to prairie grove. did the hills in bull valley and turned right onto queen anne rd to find that it was flooded right at the turn and was about a foot deep, so i had to cut the ride short and head back. when i got back to river road by the mchenry dam, the water had risen so much that i couldn't ride through it safely. luckily a passerby offered to drive me across in his grand cherokee, so that was nice. Edge data: Moving Time (h:m:s)2:38:49 3:27 pace Distance (mi ) 45.85 Moving Speed (mph) 17.3 avg. 45.5 max. Elevation Gain (ft) +2,518 Avg. Heart Rate 149 bpm |
8/25 - 20 miles and today 31 miles. Section of River Rd. is blocked due to flooding and fallen trees not yet cleared. Some roads are littered with debris from the storm and part of the MUP I rode this morning is under water but rideble if you don't mind getting some water on your bike and yourself. Ride this morning was pleasant with a gentle breeze coming from the Northeast, a relief from yesterday's humid condition.

the sun, the sun, mine eyes have seen the sun!!!!!!!!!!!! :) oh how i missed the sun. it was 68 miles for me at the bike psychos ride. normally this time of the year i would be going longer and stronger, but the legs have seen little ride time lately. it was a perfect day for riding. later. |
8/26 -- Yes, 43 miles through Hancock County, and part of Wood county. Getting ready for the HHH, It was also the first long shakedown ride for the Trek 330, no major problems.

Bummed out. Was riding on Saint Mary's when my left spd cleat wouldn't release then my sandal separated from the cleat sending the heel into the wheel messing it up and knocking the valve off my tube. After replacing the tube I made my way back to the Lake Forest Metra Station and home. Fixed the wheel, wasn't too bad, but the sandals are toast. Had to pry the cleat out of the pedal with a flat head screw driver. Why do I keep having problems with SPD? maybe time for Look style 3 hole pedals/cleats. Still got in 30 miles.
