Got in 15 miles this afternoon. Rode by Plainfield South H.S. and the new Walgreens at Caton Farm and Ridge Rds. in far NW Joliet. Would like the temperature to go up 5 degrees more then i'll ditch the coat and stick to the jacket over the sweatshirt. Those days when the temps are between 32 and 42 can make you overdress than you think, depending on the wind.

Just got back from Tucson AZ. First two days we got caught in driving snow going out to Tombstone! Warmed up a little by the middle of the week, finally hit the 70's the last two days. 534 miles and 7534 feet of climbing in 7 days, legs felt great, got in a fast pace line on Tuesday ,79 miles at a 23 mph average was tired after that ride. Well back to the cold midwest, was nice to be warm for a couple days.

Woo hoo! First 'full' day of riding for the year. For me a 'full' day is 10 mile commute to work, 9 mile ride to he club ride, 25 mile club ride, 19 mile ride home. 63 miles. It was only 40 degrees today, so that was a bit tough, but I'm tired of waiting for spring!

A measley 15 miles, but at least it was outside. I should have known I was in trouble when I looked down and saw I was going 28mph without working too hard. But I HAD t enjoy the moment...kicked it up to 32 on the flats, but had to turn around into the same wind. The return ride varied from 18 down to about 11. Man I'm in sucky shape (if there is such a shape).

That wind was evil. The variability of the gusts hurt more than it helped.

Did 16.2 miles today. Rode thru Shorewood, on I&M Canal Trail from I-55 to Houbolt, then north on Houbolt onto local bike trail back home. I&M Canal Trail was damp but rideable where i rode it. There were deep ruts, caused by snowmobiles, by Rock Run access off Houbolt (Empress) Rd. Was gonna try to bike to Minooka but the west wind was bit too strong today.

I did 40-45 miles today, some hill repeats thrown in and I drafted off of a student driver.
The wind was killer and I needed to lean into it some just to keep from getting blown off track.
Anyways, i really grew to appreciate the wind today, riding into it wasn't as tedius and miserable as it used to be, and the tailwind was the best. The worst part, however, was the crosswinds which tried to constantly blow me over.

3/26/08 Morning commute in. Loved it. Saw 4 bicyclists, and passed 3 runners. Sweetness.
Slow as crap though. I am chalking it up to the rig. I felt fine, but the rig is a hog and the knobbies didn't help. I had kind of planned on putting regular tires on it for the commute but figured I would wait until the trail gets cleaned up a bit before that.
...my vanity might win out and cause me to change quicker though.

Are you nuts? My daughter is a good student driver, but I would never draft behind her (of course if she saw dear old dad on his bike in the mirror, she might hit the brakes on purpose) Student drivers are just too unpredictable IMHO.

Yeah, she was with the driving instructor and held her speed pretty well. I stayed in her sideview mirror the whole time and sat a few feet from her bumper. I was able to follow her pretty well up this sprint-hill we've got.

Speaking of jello legs...
i did 1.5 hours of activity on Monday. Core/general exercise type stuff with about 45 minutes of interval riding. Killer workout. Something like 75 hindu squats, 100 lateral lunges, 100 "mountain climbers", pike, one handed pikes, etc.
the stuff on the bike was heavy prolonged accelerations in a 53x12. Then a few 5 minute + at 115 or higher cadence.
My legs were toast yesterday. I figured they would be OK by today's commute. They were not. Now I have been sitting here all day whimpering every time I have to stand and thinking only of the commute home.
At least the weather is nice....

I rode Friday Saturday and Sunday over in Pittsburgh over the Easter Weekend. About 6 hours total with LOTS of hills. It amazes me the weather differance 2.5 hours of drive time makes. The tempreture differance was 10 degrees warmer and the grass was green and dry.

40 miles today on the road bike. Not only did the legs get stronger as I rode, they felt great right out of the gate. I think the sticks are finally out of hibernation, I was able to do a few 30+ mph flat sprints.
Mrs. JT1 even joined me for a 16 mile loop.

Commute back was brutal. Just brutal.....but I got like 3 1/2 hours of riding in.
What doesn't kill me will make me stronger....or make me wish I was dead.
