My normal 25 mile drive to work = a 36 mile bike commute. Drove one way with my bike. Biked home. First time, and on a somewhat circuitous route. But I can't keep up with traffic on I-355, so had to create a new route. North on the Fox trail to East Dundee. Turn right. Ride to Palatine (more or less). From one end of Penny Road to the other. The Pub was tempting, but somehow I managed to ride right past. 36 more back to work tomorrow morning. Maybe going out for a few pints and a few games of pool with my wife tonight wasn't the best idea (but it was fun).

omg! i actually got to ride last night. only 20 miles, but it felt so good to get back on the saddle. unfortunately, my lungs and legs were not as enthusiastic as my mind was. tried a couple "intervals" maxing out above 30mph. i needs to get back in shape for the dairyland dare

Did like 14 miles of singletrack with NoCondorFX on the MTB's. I fell once (into mud) and broke my rear derailleur, then gracefully placed it into my spokes. Luckily, I was going slow when I happened; hell, I needed to take the jockey pulley off to get it out of the wheel.

The Latino vulture cartel from Colombia kicked our asses.

And we fought with a boa constrictor.

7/23--26 miles, solo

7/24--62 miles This was my longest solo ride. I planned a 50-miler but it turned out to be closer to 60 so I added a couple miles to get the metric. My average was just under 17. Not great but getting better.

I'm working all weekend so it's doubtful I will get any good riding but ya never know.

Scott, did you ride through the zoo or what? The only wildlife I ever see on my rides are deer, sqirrels, chipmunks, pretty standard fare all in all.

nope! we were at vultures knob. There may be a little exaggeration in that story. Such as the ape was inflatable and the boa constricter may have been a garter snake

7/21-7/24 - usual morning routes of 27, 31 miles each day. 10 miles on 7/24 due to some overtraining and prep for today----
7/25 - 100.2 miles - first century ride. 2 of us on it down to Nashville, IN and back to Indy, with some the usual Nashville hills. 5.5 hrs riding time (18.2 mph). Feeling good, just a tired. Into work for 1/2 day afterward. Felt rather fortunate to have no problems, not even a flat.

Rode to work today, but I made up for my lack of riding by installing a new rear Derailleur on my MTb after ripping it up yesterday. I upgraded from a Deore LX RapidRise to a Deore XT RapidRise.

42.5 miles in the dawn haze in a tasty 20.3 mph. Pretty good for me!

To anyone in the Elgin area looking to ride west, you can rejoice. Big Timber and Highland paving is nearing completion! I rode down both today west of Coombs and they are quite the delight, given the Roubaixesque conditions up until a few weeks ago. Looks like they just need to paint lines and some other touch ups and they'll be complete. Awesome.

Just got back from a nice 20 mile ride around Interlochen, MI. Headed out from the campsite, and climbed Youker Hill to Hamlin Road, then coasted back down the road. Then a turn around Green Lake, pretending I'm Cadel time-trialing, and back to the Arts Camp. Mrs. Road Fan was better except in the time-trial stage.

Great start to the day!

I should be a guy Rode 70 miles today....40 of it with WOMEN!!! OMG!!! Talk about some catty beaches. Never again! I'd rather struggle off the back of the guys of the BFNIC and end up alone than to ever ride again with a group of women like that.

I had to ride the additional 30 after I dropped them just to blow off steam from their mindless chatter and endless gossip and ugliness. Once we got off those topic it was kids and recipes.

Ok...rant over.

Really good ride otherwise. It did feel good to be the one everyone was trying to keep up with. That doesn't happen with the guys!
