With more people than ever taking to the roads on bikes, people are just going to have to learn to be more courteous. The sad truth is that in many areas, the majority of folks feel that roads are for cars and resent any cyclist that inconveniences them. They seem to be totally ignorant of the laws. I, too, have to say that I see cyclists act very uncourteously on their bikes with a total disregard to the rules of the road. As a matter of fact, when I stop at a stop sign to wait my turn, many look downright shocked that I didn't just fly on through the intersection. I think it's a ....two way street.

Be careful and don't assume that they are going to give you much space. I don't trust anyone and the ones texting while driving scare me most.

I don't blame you for getting angry but you don't want to end up hurt by some idiot who flies into a rage.

All I can say is that it's not like that in Boulder, CO, where I just visited. When they are doing road construction that extends into the biking lanes, they have signs that say "Cars merge with bikes" Ya gotta love that. Another sign I loved "One Way...bikes excepted"

I am not angry. That was Dave in the Video Yelling "get a muffler" Dave has 175,000 logged Road Miles
on his bikes. The Red one in the video has 50,000 miles on it.
Today I heard some kind of yell from a passing truck. Earlier We were N Bound on HYW 45 Feeder Road.
A black Motor Cycle passed us doing about 90 mph. He missed Dave by 6".
Today's ride 83 miles, Heat Index 110*

Rode the short circuit to work today. There was a chance of thunderstorms for the trip home, but I decided to take the risk. Brief but exhilerating trips both ways. I gotta break out the bike more often.

8/2 = yes

34 miles with the Endure It folks. did thier "B" group ride as it starts in Plainfield and i had no idea what a "B" group ride was like for a basically hardcore tri shop.

nice mixture of riders showed up. the pace was about what i would do on an aggressive day. i rode at the front and chatted a bit. it was fun. may try there "A" group ride next Saturday.

great weather out this morning!!

later.

Did 21 miles at Busse Woods after work yesterday. Made a short stop to watch time trials in Elk Grove - one of the bike trails there leads right into it . Seeing those guys in person is much better than on TV. Picture that made me smile and feel good - one local family put a dinner table right on a grass between the road and sidewalk enjoying Friday night while watching riders flying by.

hellzyah, 32miles down Hines drive & around Plymouth.

Gotta love these Hines park road closures on saturdays, Saw like 4 'bents 3 tandems, and 2 completely OCP pelotons of 4+ riders.

runwithit 08-02-08 11:18 AM

none today... went running for 9 miles on some trails. would hit the bike, but i came down with poison ivy or poison sumac and it is everywhere. and when i say everywhere, i mean everywhere. i hate yard work. i think my spandex/lycra tights would just cause it to spread more. come on calimine... do your thing!

jbernaeyge 08-02-08 12:42 PM

8-2 did the vp saturaday mornig ride. 25.94 miles, 1 hr 21min, avg speed 19.4.was a great ride. got to meet cyclepycho.

Psimet2001 08-02-08 02:09 PM

8/2 - 30 miles hauling around the trailer with my son on board. During the ride I decided to come up with a bumper sticker for the trailer that says something like, "This is MY baby weight"

Little P man had a blast. He really enjoys the time on the trail. I tried to keep it easy considering I will be roasting my legs and lungs at the Elgin Crit tomorrow morning, but it's not like you can haul ass with a trailer anyway.

71.5 miles of picture perfect weather out of Cross Plains this morning.

I wandered aimlessly, yet purposefully, and did a bunch of the HHH hills in reverse. The descent down Mounds Park is wicked fast for those couple of miles, but let me tell you, descending down Pinnacle is dicey! :D

A bunch of roads have gravel down ready to be chip-sealed. Blue Mounds Trail, Greenwald, and Mineral Point. I skipped all of them and just made up the route as I went along.

Also, detoured over to see if Roberts Road was as steep as I remembered from DLD last year. Yeah, it's steep. But it's not super long, so wasn't that bad.

aham, I got your Uphill Grind XXL Club Cut jersey. You'll need to revert to the 2004 version of yourself to fit into it, though. :D

making 08-02-08 03:48 PM

22.0 miles.

Today 23 miles on the Leelanau Peninsula - Lake Leelanau to Sutton Peninsula, up to Sutton's Bay, across back to Lake Leelanau. Lots of Mission Bay and cherry farms.

patester242002 08-02-08 09:17 PM

8/1 - 6.0 miles
8/2 - 32.5 miles
Rode to Lockport using limestone trail from Joliet to Lockport. Fresh coat of tar on section of trail in Lockport from Division St. to Norton Bldg. lot off 9th St. Trail closed north of there by the Gaylord Bldg. Centennial Trail north of 2nd St. in Lockport to 135th St. near Romeoville closed til March 20th of next yr. due to construction (more like further cleanup of old Texaco site). Guess there's no good direct way to get between these two areas cuz New Avenue is being used as a detour route north of the 9th St. high bridge construction which is supposed to be finished around the end of this month.

8/3....Back to reality. After 7 days on a boat floating around the Caribbean eating and DRINKING to my heart and belly's content I climbed back on the bike this morning. 38miles at 19.6. Lungs felt good but legs screamed in protest all the way

sailor42 08-03-08 09:25 AM

19.61 mile out and back with some small rolling hills this morning. It was a colder out than I expected and it took me awhile to get warmed up. I'm also starting to get some numbness in my right pinkie toe after about 5 miles, so I'll have to start trying to figure out the root of the problem. Overall a good ride.

Today 13.3 miles around Green Lane, just south of Interlochen, MI. HR around 120 the whole time, a nice recovery ride after my fast Suttons Bay ride (HR 125 to 150 for 2 hours) yesterday.

20 miles. Here's a report-http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...61#post7195361

aham23 08-03-08 11:00 AM

8/3 = 28 miles

tried something new and headed over to the Lockport, Lemont, Homer Glen area. while i tackled some nice rollers and the tree lined roads were a nice change the ride sucked. way too much traffic for me and the some of the roads were in bad shape. of course, maybe i just suck at planning routes :). i did pretend i was following CVV up State Street in Lemont.

i may have to go back out later today for another ride. you know, to shake off this crap one.

later.

patester242002 08-03-08 11:57 AM

The Lockport - Homer Glen - Lemont area totally sucks. No good way to get from Romeoville to Lockport on a bike with the bike trail closed (thanks Chevron idiots!), High Rd. closed by 143rd due to bridge replacement over creek) and New Avenue choked with traffic as well as the road in horrible shape. You basically would have to go a few miles east past I-355 to get around there. Far west Jofield is much better for riding that's for sure.

aham23 08-03-08 12:22 PM

^^^^ i actually did a little hike-a-bike across the closed bridged on High Road.

i drove over to the 135th bridge and started my ride from there. went down New Ave, which was fine until you got near Lemont. went up State St and tracked over to Parker down to Bruce over to Farrell over to High Rd and so on.

i stick with the low traffic flatlands west of me.

I'm in a whole different place in terms of endurance. I think it's the altitude training :) Rode 100 miles today....30 with my neighbor ....60 on my own...and then last 10 with my husband. I stopped at 100 miles because there was no reason to go any longer, but I wasn't tired and felt really strong. My husband said, "dang, I spot you 90 miles and still can't keep up with you" :D

Today is our 23rd anniversary  Life is good.

Time to taper for the DARE. We're less than 2 weeks away.
