I have that same problem. If I'm riding alone, I just push. :-/ I'm a speed freak. The only way I can go slow is to have someone to wait for. And even in that case I act like a hyperactive dog, zooming ahead, doing circles till they pass and zooming ahead again.

Though my ride to the train station is only 1.2 miles, I managed to average 20mph on my way there. :-) Yup, I can pour on the power for ALL of 200 seconds.

5/4: I don't know if this counts as a "brick", but I ran in the morning and rode in the afternoon. Not much mileage in either case, but on the running side I'm still recovering from a stupid injury that I inflicted on myself last December.

The afternoon ride was a leisurely rail-trail ride with the wife. They just opened a new Panera Bread almost next to the trail, so naturally we checked that out at break time.

I called it the shredder because recently whenever I do hard work on the bike my lungs just feel shredded afterwards. I have tons of lun cookies and end up having to use an inhaler late that night just to breathe. I think I have an upper respiratory infection....but I don't want to wussy out with any excuses.

05/05 - Commute in. Hurt. I found I can't ride softly anymore. I felt the need to push myself. Should be interesting to see how I feel for the ride home.

No personal best, but not bad either.
i feel like one giant piece of snot so far this season. i chalk it up to allergies. i would suggest, that if anyone see me out and about you not grab my wheel unannounced. it could be ugly .

i was trying to indicate i like the term "shredder." if you dont mind i may borrow it.

as for my avgerage HR it has been a bit high this Spring (132 ish). i think this is due to the lack of running in my life. last year i was just in fantastic shape for the entire year thanks to that half and full marathon i ran. those were the days.

later.

maybe this is for a different forum, but is a low avg. heart rate compared to high avg. speed equal to being "ultra fit?" even in the middle of summer at my peak form, my avg heart rates are still pretty high. The difference between the middle of summer and now is that in the spring, i feel like crap when the ride is over. in the summer i don't feel as bad.

I also did the Qudrupedal on May 4th. After 60 miles in, the wind and the hills wiped out my legs, so I eliminated the last loop. I ended up with 70 mi, and over 6100 in elevation gain.

I think I'm going to lose some weight before the HHH next month

The wind was pretty gusty. At one point the crosswind almost blew me off the road. And I'm over 200lbs and not a handkerchief in the wind. On the way back going south it turned into headwind. Boo.

38 miles of wind but with warm temps. My legs were in a spot of pain all ride though. I guess from the hard 73 mile effort yesterday

I snuck away for just over an hour in Waukesha County. Beautiful day ...74F (62 here at home). Legs pretty dead on the way out, but felt better on the flip side ... maybe it was the tail wind ... or the downhills ??

I have noticed that checking everyones Edge stats. For me, this year I am recovering faster and my avg HR is down a little. My weight is also down from last year. The two do go hand in hand: more weight = work harder. Also I am a little older than most of y'all, so I think that plays a part too.

What a gorgeous day! Not really that much wind...just a little from one direction. The fact that I can't remember which direction indicates that it really wasn't a factor.

Ended up with 45 miles. Nice!

5/5 25 miles with son and wife, we rode with one of the other ride clubs (silver wheels), this is a more recreational club, the rides being a bit slower, but we made it interesting by sprinting to any yellow colored diamond shaped road signs. Everyone thought it was a gas, we would try and sneak up on each other (it never worked), even the wife won one by breaking early and holding off her hard charging son!!

5/6 = YES

working from home this morning allowed me to get out for a mid week ride. oh boy, it was real nice!

i attempted to put in a shredder worthy effort. so, i opted for my flattest of flat routes (yes i know its Will County & all my routes are flat) and went out hard.

the legs were slow to respond. i have yet to have a ride where everything was working in harmony. it's early in the season i guess?? part of my issues are these darn allegeries sucking the energy & life out of me. crazy thing is, prior to age 30 i never had any allergies.

back to the attempted shredder. i didnt make it to that level. i will need to consult the BFNIC effort level chart but, i think i was one level below at thrasher. i did get a nice start on my cycling tan as the freaking weather is perfect out.

it was 40 miles at 18.4 mph with avg HR of 137. more stats HERE.

later.

JOLT trail in Franklin. 15 miles - just rolled it. Lots of folks out - even saw a Beans & Barley rider coming out of downtown Greendale. Don't see many racers on my daily schedule.

Channel 5 news this morning said the rain would hold off until late tonight. I got soaked on my commute home.

Gary, I can't allow myself to acknowledge you as a fellow rider. Skipping the Tuesday nighter to do a group ride? Skipping RATL because it was "icky"?
You're no racer.

40.93 mile training crit in Westlake. The race was kind of lax. There was a big breakaway with 5 guys that we caught at the sprint. I started one chase group, but it didn't last more than two laps, it did, however, send a message to the rest of the riders, and we worked on reeling in the break. We didn't reel them in really fast, but we did nonetheless.

I'm working on a race report in my blog as we speak, it'll contain the typical explicits and numbers that you've come to expect from such a high-quality mecca of information.
