Well, the average heartrate in Madison has now gone down 5 bpm. Ironman Wisconsin is here. From my 10th floor perch overlooking the lake I can marvel at the swimmers in the open choppy and bacteria-laden water and admire the bikes. A short walk down to the lake gives me a first hand look at the bikes (love to see the Cervelos intersperced with the poor person's special) and the athletes. Ironman Wisconsin is awesome.
Last year I watched the bike leg in Verona and there were spectators out four deep along the rails. Awesome stuff. And the weather was horrible (50 degrees, windy, and raining). Some folks dropped out due to hypothermia. Speaking of legs, I saw an Ironman today with a prosthetic right leg. Now that's an Ironman (or perhaps Titanium man)!
If you want to see a great biking event with lots of fans, come over/down/up to Madison on Sunday.
I might come downtown this year. This is only my 2nd year in Madison and last year it rained so I elected to drive out to Verona and it was an awesome experience anyway. It was neat seeing all the family support from all around the country. This year I plan to ride out there, and then ride on bike paths back to downtown. I think the pros end up finishing around 3:30 pm or so. Chris McDonald (of Gatorade fame) was speaking today. As with some of the tough rides noted on this forum, I live vicariously through other tougher bike riders, although from your ride report on WSC, I might give that a go next year.
Any other Madisonians going to watch?
Yum, brunch, my favorite meal. Used to go all the time, but now biking "interferes." I'll start up again in winter.
I suppose I should qualify that my 10th floor perch is not from a luxurious downtown condo, but rather, a state office building.
