Job Transfer

My wifes' mortgage company office is being closed here north of San Francisco and she is accepting a transfer to south Minneapolis, a couple of miles NE of the marshy lake Parks. If my current assignment is not extended (quite possible) I'll be joining her in a while. What bike shops and recreational cycling clubs are in that area? I have enough cold weather gear but when it hits sub zero will prefer public transit. How is that in the south Minneapolis area? Thanks.

No response.
WIll try General area.

Here are a couple bike clubs:
Twin Cities Bike Club (TCBC) http://www.pdwebworks.com/tcbc/index.html
Hiawatha Bike Club http://www.hiawathabike.org/

Many bike shops with two big chains:

I did some TCBC rides and they are well organized and appears to be a fine organization. There is a lot of good rides in MN and across the border in WI (I live in WI but work in MN) Give me a holler when you get here and maybe we can hook up on a ride.

Dan

Ken - I joined TCBC this summer and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a good organization and they have many rides of various levels, so it's easy to find one that is a match to your level and schedule. The TCBC bike shop link that dannwilliams posted is a good resource. As for public transit, we have buses (that accomodate bikes) and a light rail system that runs from the Mall of America (I-494 about 2? miles east of I-35W) to the airport and then on to downtown Minneapolis. I have an express bus that I can pick up several blocks from the house (south Minneapolis) and get downtown in about 30 minutes. The non-express routes are considerably slower. Here is the link to metro transit (route maps, schedules, info on bikes on buses, etc.): http://www.metrotransit.org/

PM me if you have more questions or want more info. We lived here for about 12 years before heading off for adventures on the east coast and Alaska, but I moved back a year and a half ago now and it seems like I never left. South MPLS is great - you'll love it.
