Milwaukee to Madison

Anyone got a tried and true route to get from Milwaukee to Madison? I know that there are at least two good routes to get from here to there, but I'm not sure of their specifics. My starting location is going to be in between Reservoir Park and Brewers hill. Any route help would be appreciated, otherwise I'm just going to print out some maps and hope for the best.

You need to be clearer on the question , what you riding , roadbike , hybred, mountain with slicks?
Do want a direct route meaning a lot of roads, or more of a trail ride? Trying to do it in 1 day?

I ride a fixed gear, but 80 miles in a day is not too extreme for me. I'm probably going to be following the rails to trails system out here, but may also spend a little bit of time on the country roads if necessary. Basically, I am looking for the quickest route that is safe. As long as I'm not riding down the side of 94 I will be content with the scenery and difficulty.

I am going to take the Hank Aaron trail west from 6th street in West Milwaukee, along Canal St., along the south edge of the Miller Park area, west to the cemetery, south on General Mitchell Rd, to Hines, then a right onto W. Washington, which I will ride on, paralleling Greenfield Ave. for several miles. I will then turn south to ride on/along Greenfield as I go under the Zoo Parkway, and will either ditch Greenfield or keep riding on it, going west. I will take a left onto 124th St. Entering Greenfield Park from the west and ending on 124th St. is the New Berlin Trail. I will take the New Berlin Trail 6.5 (Or less than 1/10th of the way) west, to the City of Waukesha. I will navigate through Waukesha without making a single mistake, picking up the Glacial Drumlin State Trail to the west of Waukesha. I will pass near/through Wales, Dousman, Sullivan, Helenville, London, and Deerfield. Finally, I will ride northwest on Vilas Rd., take a left on Cottage Grove Rd., and will then be home free. The ride will not be scenic but it will certainly be a good exercise.

And now you know. Maybe if you are lucky I will post results.

Just remember its not paved all the way out, after dousman its crushed limestone. I have ridden my roadie over this stuff not bad , but I wonder how it is with all the rain that we have had. From
the West milwaukee area its about 30 to 35 miles out to Dousman. I live right by the Allis chalmers area.
Make sure you pick up a pass before you hit the drumlin trail. The trail is a nice ride Good luck

Sounds like a good route to me. Direct and fairly flat.

Waukesha - Pewaukee - Watertown would be more scenic, but who knows how many miles it would add.

I'm going to bike to Madison from Milwaukee. I've done it once in 95 via the Glacial Drumlin. I was pretty young then and don't remember how long it took. I just remember that it was long and I'm looking for a quicker route because of weather (roads maybe)?
