New to Milwaukee

So, I missed the end of the popular biking season when I moved to this city, and I haven't really found a good bike group. I like biking around with company, and I have a hard time biking with my dog in the winter. So are there some people who would like to just cruise around? I ride ss urban mountain bike with slicks, so it's not as fast as roadies, but I can keep up with fixies just fine. I don't have a huge problem keeping up with road bikes if they're not pushing hard. I'm in pretty decent shape, so if people want to cruise anywhere between 5-30 miles I would be buy a pitcher or two afterward.

I'm on the East side near brady and farwell, so bother me if you want to ride.

You need to ride with Hipcycler. He's the Biggest Name In Milwaukee Radio and loves a challenge from anyone on a mountain bike with slicks, you know. (hang out on the boards long enough... you'll get this one eventually.)

There are plenty of Milwaukee folks on the board. John Wilke, where y'at?

I'm here ... struggling with a busted mouse.

There is a strong cycling community on the east side, where you live, you should have no problem hooking up with others to ride. Stop by any one of the bike shops, kick a few tires and strike up a conversation ... "So, does anyone ride around here? I'm new to the area ... blah blah".

You'll be freezing your feet with others in no time.

Me? I rarely make it to the east side ... I'm usually out in the corn of Racine County and currently still in 'ski mode'.

Is hipcycler Marcus Doucette? He hangs out a coffee shop near my place sometimes and he's a dj at my favorite radio station. I've talked to him once (complimented his fixie) but that's about it.

Try this guy. He's a bikeforums celebrity and roadie extraordinaire.

Mmmmmm ... which is it???

1. hip

Cooler than cool, the pinnacle of what is "it". Beyond all trends and conventional coolness.

"Stay away from the tacky velvet-rope MTV frat-boy clubs on the beach. Check out this party downtown instead, it's gonna be hip."

2. The state of being in-the-know, including, but not limited to, being stylish or fashionable. It is sometimes claimed to have replaced its predecessor, "hep," with the 1946 popular song, "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66," first recorded by Nat Cole, and the Rolling Stones (and many others) after that. According to the songwriter, he changed "hep" to "hip" for the sake of a rhyme (see example).

. . . get hip / To this kindly tip / And take that California trip,/ Get your kicks on Route 66.

3. Also known as the Hip Bone and Pelvis. This Hip is located at the end of the spine, and acts as the socket for both legs. Females have wider, shallower hips, to support pregnancy.

My Girlfriend has bony hips.

Hip is creative
Hip is risky
Hip is musical
Hip is artistic
Hip is technologic
Hip is entrepreneurial
Hip is striving
Hip is achieving
Hip is sharing
Hip is growing
Hip is lively
Hip is in the moment
Hip is all hip
Hip is Not consuming
Hip is Not boring
Hip is Not status quo
Hip is Not following
Hip is Not normal
Hip is Not defeatist
Hip is Not redundant
Hip is Not stagnant
Hip is Not mindless
Hip is Not heartless
Hip is Not jaded
Hip is Not bureaucrat
Hip is Not a strip mall
Hip is never the same twice
Hip is not about fame ---- Well .....
Hip is not about celebrity ---- AHEM !!
Hip is about action
Hip is not about reaction
Hip is happening before the scene
Hip is ahead or behind but never in the middle
Hip is way of living
Hip is the person who leads without trying
Hip is the person who sees what is hidden
Hip is spiritual and intense edgy calm manic focused and connected
Hip is the first time something is said that seems obvious after the fact

Hip is ___ FILL IN THE BLANK ___

Welcome.

First, you must get your pose down at Alterrra on the Lake!
If you can't be fast, at least look good I say.

Where did you move from?

Have you been over to Rainbow Jersey Bike Shop in Shorewood yet? The owner there, Jerry, is my coach.

Just a couple of things you'll need to know...

--Those guys from Illinois are the real deal. Despite being from across the border, they're as real as they come. If you get a chance, ride with them....great people, but don't tell them I said that. They're all still licking their wounds from the Bears' season and jealous about us having a REAL NFL team.

--Check out a map of the Oak Leaf Trail, which circles the entire area basically.

--WiSport series is a great racing group that is entry level as well. Fun events and great competition.

Perhaps we'll see each other on the road down the road.
Enjoy the city, and again, welcome here.

I moved from Eau Claire, WI. If none of you have been there, I recommend stopping by. There's some great singletrack stuff and the bike community is really laid back and fun. There's a lot of variety. Plus EC has some of the greatest bars and the local music is good and plentiful. And it's right on the way to the twin cities, so there's no reason to not stop by for a look see.

The only bike shop I've been to so far is Cory the Bike Fixer. They did my ss conversion for me, and they seemed like great guys.

And I'm pretty familiar with the Oak Leaf Trail already. I wasted no time finding it as soon as my bike was operational. I'll be most recognizable in the spring, when you'll see me and my dog, Sprocket, there all the time. He's a german shepherd- chow mix, about 50 lbs, and super happy. He'll have a purple tongue hanging out of his mouth. If you see us, pull up along side and say hi.

Thanks for the welcome, guys.
