I'm always in. Looks like I might not be buying the jersey this year though...

Good news too: my wife feels kind of bad about missing out all of the other times, and my son is old enough he could be left with grandparents or even come along....so I think she's actually going to drive SAG this year.

...or I could end up without SAG going into the last couple of weeks before the event again like usual.

Very cool jersey! But unless I ride a lot more than I usually do earlier in the year...

I would go if there were any people from southeast Michigan going that wanted to give me a lift. I'm car-free and it's a bit of a hike for me to make it down there under my own power, unless I make a full on tour out of it.

I'd love to do it. Logistics seem a bit daunting for a guy from Virginia.

Last year I did RAIN on my way to Virginia. The family (me, wife, 3 kids, 1 huge dog) started in Illinois, then they drove across Indiana while I biked it. It worked pretty well. Bringing the road bike along inside the van would have been easier if we didn't already have the 5 mountian bikes in their too. That required some serious packing...

We've said it before and will say it again: You can do this ride. Seriously.

I may be up for driving SAG if somebody wants to cover my expenses for the weekend....

2008 looks to be a penny-pinching year for me.

I have it penciled in my calendar but it is too far in the future to commit. I lived in Terre Haute 30 years ago and would like do this as a sort of "homecoming."

+1,000,000. This ride - like all endurance rides - is about the mental side of things. You definitely have enough saddle time to physically make it with no issues.

Honestly I think it is a shame that you haven't done it already. I have ridden with you a lot Voldemort and know that you have what it takes to finish this ride without having to pump tons of extra ride time in for preparation. I seriously think you should make it a goal for yourself for this year.

The HHH is a nice ride and all, but nothing makes you feel better than actually completing a 160 mile ride. Even if it is flat and with the wind the whole way. Seriously this thing can fell like it's only a century if conditions are right.

I can see it now. You're driving SAG for all of us and then get there and decide to bandit. "Come on guys...we can just ride back to Terre Haute to get the car..."

I wouldn't do that.

I'll let you know before June if this is the way I am going for the ride, okay?

Awesome. Might I recommend the Udder at the end of May. Awesome century. Remember 100 miles is mental once you can ride a metric.

When will you be dropping off the Pinarello so that it can be ready to provide for those hours of training?

"Training" has been happening on the Schwinn Airdyne in the basement. You can have my Pinarello anytime, as it sits idly in the basement. I prefer the airdynne over the trainer anyway. Maybe I'll swing it by tonight if you're home. Wife works so I have the boys to myself. Heading to the fishing show in Rosemont in a little while.

The Udder may be just the ticket for my 1st century. I'm looking forward to late June. Heading to Northern Michigan again just North of Traverse. Gonna get some rides in up there. Just sent away for some maps from MDOT and a few other sources.

Not sure if I can make it this year...we're committed to a family trip to Maine the week of the 14th and Cheri burned most of her remaining vacation days recovering from her foot surgery. But I'm still gonna try to finagle it somehow.

It's not bad, you have 14 hours to finish, and there are enough stops, gas stations, etc... to have breaks, take your time and finish strong. The fastest group start coming in at about 6:40, but they use rolling SAG's, feedbags, etc... and have very little time off the bike. Last year I finished in 9:13, but had a full hour off the bike (counting all the stops). I've not signed up yet, but plan to as it's a great motivator, last year we had about 30 from Richmond do RAIN, so for a smaller town many of "the guys" do the ride. However they finish all over the place. I'm still not sure if I want to go for a new record, or sit back and enjoy the ride? I only sleep a couple hours, too much excitement I guess. Anyway, I would encourage anyone interested to sign up, it's a great ride!

Also, I will work harder to meet my fellow BF'ers this year, I regret not trying to touch base more last year.

P.S. Conditions last year were perfect, so that likely won't happen again

Near perfect...perfect would have been if the wind had changed direction and remained a tailwind as we went around Indy and around that construction detour.

There are plenty of rest stops, stores, gas stations etc. on the route...and lots of friendly folks - riding, sagging or just minding their business - who have no problem helping out someone in need.

I'm definitely in this year. Last year was such a blast! I know, I know, we had perfect temps and a tailwind, but I'm still looking forward to it. My wife and daughter played SAG, and they had a lot of fun navigating and getting lost (even with directions). I only have one minor complaint, and that's with the jersey. I wish they'd make it with raglan sleeves instead. The sleeves bunch up on me and it's a little irritating.

If you can do a century, you can do this ride. It's not a race, and you have 14 hours to finish (not to mention 1000+ other people to draft and keep company with so you don't get bored out of your mind). If you've never done a century, get out there and do one! Come ride one with the BFNIC guys, they're a great group to ride with. My first century was last year at the Sudden Century with these guys, and they made it an enjoyable, less daunting experience.

That looks fun but the Missouri State Time Trial is the following weekend, which I kind of have penciled into the schedule for now. Somehow, I don't think doing the 160 would be a good idea this year.

But it definitely looks like a great 1 day ride.
