Weekend racing: Brighton, Winfield, Sussex? 5/31, 6/1
Not much noise made from the Memorial Day weekend from anyone, so what about this comming weekend?
Plenty of competitions in the IL/WI area:
- WI State Time Trial Champs near the Bong Rec. Area in Kenosha County
- Twilight Criterium in Winfield, IL followed by a crit. there Sunday as well.
- Criterium in Sussex, WI on Sunday.
I'll be shooting pix at the TT and if it ends early enough, will catch the P12 in Winfield on Saturday. Sunday will find me in Sussex looking for BF riders crossing the line first!

I have never done a TT, and I don't think I wanna just jump into the state TT.

On the other hand, the level of competition doesn't really matter. You're racing solo regardless. I suck at TTs, and that state TT was my second TT last year. I got passed mercilessly. But it didn't matter. It's a TT. But I'm not doing it this year. Crits are better. Crashing is fun.

Windfield...Both Sat and Sun. This is my last weekend as a cat5. I will have hit the max mass starts. I like the 40+ cat5 on Sun.

John:
I figured out where you were on the first lap when I saw your tripod on the side of the road (right next to a road sign, IIRC). Next time I came around I think you were deep in the grass.
That stretch of road was sweet -- mainly due to the tailwind.
Sounds like a busy weekend all around!

Yup ... that was me! I hope I got some good disc wheel sounds. My apologies to some of the folks that I may have missed ... it's not easy shooting someone's picture when you go by me at 40 mph!
Just a preview ... MANY MANY more to be posted soon (like by Monday).
Wisconsin State Time Trial Champs:
From there, I drove down to Winfield, IL, a western suburb of chicago and actually found it rather easily.

A few from the Pro 1/2 race:
Athlete's by Design were well represented with their elite Gear Grinder squad.
The National Anthem (nice touch).
and from there I just camped out on the hill. This guy seemed to like the camera -
and the pace looked hot right from the gun.
At the top of the hill, during the P12 race, they had some KOM (or King of the Hill) primes -
The guys on the hill were talking with the Start/Finish announcers by radio and arranged the BIG prime with 5 laps to go -
$200 and who should win it???
It's our camera friendly guy from Team PACT!
(Continued ... I can only put 10 pics on each post)

From there it was a 5 lap sprint to the end ...
Gear Grinders seem to have it all together for ANOTHER win the last time past the line ...
BUT ...
TURIN takes the "W" in the final bend! Just nipping _______ from Gear Grinders (forgive me for not knowing names ... heck, he's got the ABR National Championship Jersey on ... SORRY! I'll learn ... I'll learn!)
Great courses, great racing today ... and I've got the sunburn to prove it, but it was a FUN day.
It was 77 degrees in Chicago this afternoon ... and when I got back home in Milwaukee ... it's 59!
I'll be scraping frost off the car in the morning !
So I may go back to Chicago for the National ABR champs tomorrow instead of Sussex. I'll grab a few hours sleep and see how things look in the AM.

Sussex Report:
8th place and KOM winner. Upgrade points, and a pair of headphones, a t shirt, a water bottle, some jelly belly sport beans, and a bottle of organic soybean oil chain lube were py prizes. Not bad, but I was hoping for a better finish, but my legs were dead after going for the 2 KOM sprints.

Well done Frunkin!
Hey, if you need help carrying home all the swag that you won at a race ... then you're doing just fine in my book.
