U.P. Mini Tour

I'm looking to do a mini-four day tour of the U.P. this year. Anyone have any ideas? Last year we peddaled from St. Ignas to Grand Marais and back in two days. This year I'm going to do 300-350 miles in four days. Any ideas??

A ride I want to do some time is Houghton to Copper Harbor.

There is another thread somewhere with pics., I think that is around 100 miles round trip, and has a nice climb up to Mt. Royal. That might be some place to consider.

That looks like a good ride! I was thinking that or somewhere around St. Ignace / De Tour / Sault area.

Check out Drummond Island. Not too many cars here. Has a bar or two. Ride out to the Maxton Plains. On the way back, have a race between you swimming and the ferry.

I live in the Keweenaw. Here are some links to some of my blog posts with pictures of the roads in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties:

Here is a link to some photos I took for the Keweenaw Color Tour last year. This ride goes from Houghton to Copper Harbor and back.

Back in the early 70s rode our tandem from St. Ignace and then took ferry to Drummond Island.
Much better than Mackinac Island anytime (too crowded, too many tourists!).

Thanks folks! The Keweenaw tour looks great! We're leaving today, and right now the plan is to take off after work, drive from Pontiac to Marquette tonight. We're then going to pedal from Marquette to Copper Harbor and back over the next four days, and drive back Sunday. However, if we don't make it Marquette tonight, we'll probably do the St Ignace / Drummond Island / Sault St Marie tour. Hopefully I'll be able to check / post this over the weekend!

You're going to love Copper Harbor. :-) If you can, check out the fireworks. We had a spectacular display last year. I'm not sure what's in store for this year, but it will be fun. :-)

OH, I would recommend taking 41 up to Copper Harbor, then take the lakeshore by way of Eagle Harbor back down. When you get to Calumet, turn on 203 towards McLain State Park. That will give you some of the views I showed in my pictures - minus the snow. ;-) 203 will take you right back into Hancock.

I've done that route by motorcycle, and it is spectacular! Retired now from engine-powered two-wheeling in favor of leg power, but haven't been at it long enough to travel that far for a ride. Maybe someday...
