Chicago >> Chain-o-Lakes route?
Some friends and I are talking about riding out to Chain-o-Lakes for some camping this spring.
Not sure about the route. I've ridden nearly to Wisconsin a many times (standard long route to HP and beyond) but I'm curious if there are any suggestions about getting to Chain-o-Lakes.
If this happens, I'll post a link to the "map my ride" route as a reference.

I would take the North Branch bike path to Dundee Road and Forest Way Dr in Glencoe.
Head North on Forest Way Dr to Green Bay Rd.
Take Greenbay to Clavey in Highland Park, then go west on Clavey to Ridge.
Take Ridge North to Kennedy, Take Kennedy west to St Marys Rd.
Take St Marys Rd Noth to 176.
Well, that gets you to Libertyville!
Hunt Club Rd & Grass Lake Rd are scenic and moderatly safe.

Yep. That is my "plan A" route for "leg #1". Its legs 2 & 3 that I know nothing, nothing at all.

If you get to St. Marys take it past 176 up to 137, turn right on 137 and then immediate left on O'Plaine. Take O'Plaine to Washington, turn left to Hunt Club, turn right to Millburn / Grass Lake. Turn Left and head west to your destination. I rode this route in reverse when riding from home in Antioch to Deerfield for Bike-to-work day last year

Agreed - I knew there was a way to cut through that sub-division but didn't research it carefully enough beforehand... I would definitely use that route next time.
