Unfortunately, I'm out. I'm doing a couple of rides in Virginia that weekend instead. Old men on old bikes.

normally we have a huge turnout for this ride. It's my favorite of the year. Bummed I got an out of town wedding that weekend and will miss it. Later.

I'll wave to all you 100 milers as you blow by me. You'll actually probably be on the road before I will. I'll be Fredding it with the hubby
This will be my first organized ride so I have no idea what to expect.

Say "buon giorno!" to all the other cat 4's during your race if you can catch your breath.

Man, what happened to this ride? This used to be one that everyone came out to rock it through the rolling farmland.
I'm still mulling the 100, but might just end up rolling solo and saving the entry fee.

i'll be there, riding with a couple friends who have never ridden out in farm country. not entirely sure if our pace will be up to the BFNIC standards, which is why I haven't chimed in.

I had an asthma/allergy/lung, problem. Between that and recovering from the side effects of the medicine I was out for a while. I feel great now, however I didn't ride too much this spring. I was able to get a couple hundred miles in these last few weeks, but no rides over 50 miles. Weather permitting I plan to ride the century.

Asthma attack; decrease in cycling performance
Take medicine; feel side effects
Wait 15-30 minutes for side effects to go away
Wait more for medicine to properly kick in
Feel great WAY later when your body has adjusted.

I've been planning on doing this ride but with the forecast calling for thunderstorms I'm hesitating. Not so much b/c of the rain—I have rain gear and have ridden in rain plenty of times—but because of lightning. Anyone else concerned about this? Anyone who lives or rides on these rural IL routes got any sage advice on whether tempting the thunder gods is a bad idea?
