Bought A New Bike ... !!!

For my eldest daughter!

The first bike she's been excited about. Thank goodness. Now if I can get her to go on recovery rides with me. Her little sister is still too small at 8. The key selling points were a matching helmet, an easy to use kick stand, and gears.

Dr. Psi ... want to get some street tires. The rims are 24: x 2.125. Recommendations? We will be on crushed/woodchips at the roughest. 90% street.

Try performance if you are in the neighborhood. If nothing then I can scour the distributors.

1. You don't think Psyco was quite a bit slow with his warning? I saw him look left so I looked right. Right was clear and by the time he finally yelled car, actually I think you beat him to it, ... I made a snap judgment that it was better to cross than jam the brakes.
2. I didn't cross the finish line till I let a couple guys pass me. And I had to wait a looooooong time. No cheating wins for me.
3. Yes, you're right I should slow down more approaching intersections ... and I'll try.

1) It's not up to anyone else to get you to look both ways at a crossing. If you're up at the front --which both of you were-- then you are each responsible for yourselves. It's a courtesy that the riders up front holler out 'slowing' or 'stopping' at an intersection, but ultimately it is up to each rider to be paying attention at all times.

Hell, I didn't hear either of you before I heard the cars coming and I was at least 20 feet behind you guys.

2) This is completely irrelevant. You had to "wait a looooooong time" because you started hammering when you saw the rest of us waiting for four cars to pass. This ain't about winning a sprint. It's about getting back to the start safe as we possibly can by using our heads, eyes, and ears.

3) Like I said after the ride.... If you want to get hit by a car through your own carelessness, that's fine. Just don't inconvenience the rest of us by doing it on a group ride. (This was said partly in jest and partly because I don't want any of us hit.... ever)

I'm not trying to start a whizzing contest here, but just hope you can realize that as much as we look out for each other that ultimately we have to individually look out for our own safety by avoiding these situations. In addition (and in my opinion), it also helps the whole extended cycling family when cars see us yielding to their right of way.

Sorry, didn't mean to ruffle feathers This wasn't the first time you've done this. I just wanted you to think next time. We both have kids that need us here. We are not in a race here. We are not on a closed course. We still have to abide by the rules.

1 - Yes, I was delayed. That cause I figured everyone would at least slow down and look for themselves. My delay was because I saw you not slowing.

2 - You were dying and you know it

3 - PLEASE!!! I'd hate to see a friend get hurt!

hmmm ...lots of words. Bored. But I still don't feel like reading all of them.

Cylowe and cc are both extremes of the same issue. Cc rides as though it is every man for himself and cylowe rides like it's a rolling commune. It makes for some funny times on the road.

You guys know where I stand. I don't like safety lectures and everyone is responsible for their own riding. I trust a few guys when it comes to callng it out at intsrsections but I still look and I don't hold the guy calling it out responsible for my safety.

The slowing and stopping callouts should go bye-bye. I even think a hand signal -which I do- is realliy too much. Ride heads up. If you do then you will know what is going on.

My new nicknames for them are now the safety monitor and the chipmunk-twitchy fast version of the squirrell.

When you send in 5 box tops from blinkie packets along with any leftover political signage you have from the last election - for recycling.

I had to burn all my McCain-Palin signage to keep the family warm in January. I guess I'm out of luck.

Wait.... I may still have lots of Dawn Clarke Netch for Governor signs from 1994. Will those work?

My only consolation is that if I didn't wait ... the ridicule would be 10 times worse. lol.

Seriously, I'm going to dial it back at intersections. Please call me on it if I don't, k? And thanks for the concern (even if it is covered in hatred).
