Spring Prairie 2009-Course description?

1) so, whose racing in the "out-of-towners" cats? What about the "townies" cats?

2) I know there are hills. For those that have raced it can you offer some detail as to the "big ones" and a general description of 2 miles to the finish.

thanks!

I didn't race last year. I drove up there intending to race. As I was pulling in, they stopped the race that had been going on because the rain was so bad people couldn't see. So, I didn't bother.

I did drive the course, though. I'd say that hill is long and nasty. Not sure where you ride, but I recall it being much longer and much more of a leg buster than anything around the Chicagoland area. I believe it starts off fairly steep but is not quite as nasty the higher you climb.

If I recall correctly, the last two miles would be a fairly flat/straight into a 90 degree right hand turn that would be the base of the climb.

Hope that helps.

Anyone want to carry a bike cam in the road race? I'll get 1hr 30mins of video from it.

Heading off to Winfield in a bit, but will prob. shoot this one on Sunday.

This doesn't do the grade justice, needless to say people are working coming over the top. I lost the group (twice) in the last 200 meters of the climb (that's me at 4:38).

(click the little HQ tab under the video box for a much better image)

I'll likely be off the back early again! I recall the rest of the course being pretty flat (by non-Ill standards) with a quick descent on the "backside."
It's a fun race. 53 and rain should make it feel like an April race again.

Off the back as expected, but I finished. One of my buddies jokiling called me a "pure climber" (210 pounds obviously is not). My retort: "Pure Klondike Bar."

Got some nice support from fellow BF'ers spectating on the climb. Thanks guys!

I had problems with cramping today too. I hear a lot of that in our field, I don't think we're used to races that long, and I know I wasn't expecting it to be so warm.

race wasn't too bad; the final hill hurt a lot--every time.

We put our guy across first in the 4/5 race. He crushed the hill and won by a nice gap.

sorry John, I hope I don't come across as impatient!

I know everyone on the forum (and at the races) are super grateful for all the work you do. Ignore me--I just don't have enough real work to do today!

The video is pretty awesome, and I'm in it! Just a little though, I'm the second guy that comes around Frunkin after the "Get it on!!!" bit and then I take off with the Wheaton guy. It's a shame you didn't get any footage of the last few laps though, they were brutal.

Sweet bridge @ 2:20.

The video doesn't really capture the true slope of the hill. It's steep.

Sweet video! I was the dude from GDVC in the orange top and blue shorts. I led the group up the neutral start, also there on the descent passing everyone at 3:30, on the climb at 4:00min. It almost looks like I was climbing well...that's too funny.

If you want a video of someone winning the cat3 WI state crit champs, you should put the camera on my bike this saturday
