Kenosha Velodrome - 7/7/09

Looks like I'm going to have some free this tuesday evening -- thinking about heading down to Kenosha to check out the track racing. Anyone going to be racing? Going to be watching?

Not sure, but I encourage you to go. They need spectators!

I'm thinking about it. It would be my first outing to the track. I just have to make sure I can borrow a bike and that the guy who promised to teach me is going too. And I need to make sure I have $40.

Well, I'm 90% certain I'm going down. Probably wear my yellow Trek 100 t-shirt from two years ago -- just to stand out. If anyone makes it, say hi!

Just rolled in from the track. Heck of a good time! I highly recommend going to anyone! (Frankly, more spectators means better show of support means more support from the City -- e.g., funding)

Finally met Frunkin in person. The youngster had a heck of a first track experience:

4th place in the sprint final

2nd place in the miss-and-out (just barely coming around a girl to take the position -- sorry man, had to say it!)

Then, in the final race (the consolation race -- points race): He hung at the front of the pack till the first sprint (5th lap), then as the others were slowing after the sprint he hammered it and soloed to victory taking a lap on all but three of the others (finishing just short of a half-lap up on those three). He ended with 16 points (second place had 8). Heck of a night!

P.S. Good advice on the jacket JW -- it got chilly there!

That was truthfully one of the most fun racing experiences I've had. I kind of felt bad racing with the 4/5's but at the same time it was my first time on the track. Hopefully they let me upgrade if I make it down a few more times.

Yep -- its how he won the consolation race.

Although I'm sure he'd agree with me that he's got to work on the rapid sprint revolutions. I think his quote last night was "I keep wanting to shift."

Apparently I was riding an 88" gear ratio which is a little low from what I hear. So maybe next time I can get a little bigger gear for a little more go.

edit: looks like I was wrong, it's a little light put pretty common. I guess I need to work on those 160 rpm sprints.
