I took my 5 year old son and 9 yr old daughter for a ride on the bike path tonight (rode my Tarmac, like an idiot!). My son had an itch so I reached over to scratch his back--you guessed it, he lost his balance and came over and hit my front wheel (Mavic Kysrium SL). We were going less than 5 mph when it happened--but enough to bend one of the Zycral spokes! Of course it wasn't his fault and I really tried hard not to be upset around him, but it was hard to hide my frustration with myself for two dumb decisions: riding my Tarmac instead of my MTB, and making contact with a new rider (he's only been riding less than two weeks). Nobody was hurt--that was the first thing I checked, of course...

I reassured him that it wasn't his fault, but he felt really bad--I was mad that I did something so stupid, so close to needing my bike. Of course, his sister made it worse by making him feel like it was his fault...

So, anyone know: will my local bike shop have black Mavic zycral spokes in stock to replace this spoke and retrue the wheel, or do I need to seriously search online (competitive cyclist seems to have them in stock as they rebuild wheels)? What are my chances of getting this fixed by Saturday? I'm really ticked (at myself) right now...

Any shops in Elgin, Chicago, Milwaukee, or the Madison area that can help? Desperate...

Elgin? Ok, in your case I would drop Psimet a PM. I'm almost 100% sure he can help you out.

I'm actually over in Rockford (Roscoe to be exact), but Elgin is only about 45 minutes away for me.

I'll try a PM to him--see what he can do...

Four of us ate there in 2007. Great little place, but it is small and closes really early because there's a B&B above it (I think that's what they told us).

I think that was it.

Besides, this is on the beer list:

Furthermore - "3 Feet Deep"– (Spring Green, Wisconsin)
A Dry Irish Stout that captures deep, smoky flavors by adding a peat smoked malt.

I was thinking more the:

Lake Louie-"Warped Speed Scotch Ale"

– (Arena, Wisconsin)

Full of body, sweetness and flavor, this reddish-brown ale is for the 'Big Beer' drinkers among us. Best for carbo loading on the 200k.

Checked the website... Four Cafe closes at 9 pm. And Brewery Creek closes at 8:30 pm.

Probably for the best to get rest for the early Saturday start, no?

Thanks for the tip: Psimet was able to point me in the direction of a shop that had the spokes in stock. I ended up going up to a shop in Madison (Chronometro if anyone searches and finds this thread looking for a Mavic Kysrium SL replacement spoke) and had it fixed for a very reasonable fee. Rode 32 miles with 1600' ascent tonight (including a 11.5 % hill--34/28 allowed me to stay seated, keep a cadence of 80, and not drop below 7.5 mph; 50-28 allows me to climb almost everything--fast!) and it rode well. I think I'm set for Saturday.

I'm gonna punch this ride in the mouth! (how was that!?)

Last year I think we ate around 6:30 or 7:00 at Cafe Four. Scummer joined us later. Why don't we just set a time and plan to meet there? I did make reservations last year.

Sigh.....out of Colorado...but hey, off to them thar hills of WI!!!!! I know it's a dirty word around here but I sure LOVE to mountain bike.

Shall we say 7:00 or 7:30 for dinner. Get a head count, let our retired hill climbing guru make reservations

Speaking of rest, none of us got much rest last year. As I remember it, I was over taking in the smoky smell and commiserating with Dave regarding wake up calls and how he was going to get some sleep before his 300k early wake up call.....I recall this was really quite late as Dave had picked up our packets around 9 at Harris Park due to the chip delay.

What will we laugh about without the Pine Forest place or whatever it was . I'd say the best we can hope for is bedbugs at the Quality Inn....O, I did find a tick on my pillow there last year in the morning and spent several minutes checking my head. 'Course we should all have our heads examined before riding the DARE!!!!!!

...and you'll be fine. I did the 100k last year - and then got bored waiting and decided to go do the 33k additional loop. Easy Cheesy. You'll feel it but you be drinking beer before most are.
Different simile, please.

I'm retired but I still say Cylcepsyco is the mountain goat (at least until I try to steal his cowbell on this ride ... do goats wear cowbells?)

OK 7:30 it is at Cafe Four, I'll make reservations. https://www.fourcafe.com/
