Cycling in the wind?

A) Did you ride in today's windstorm? (26/27 Oct 2010)
B) Headwind or tailwind ?

It almost blew my car off the road, I don't know how you would stay upright on bicycle.

No, I didn't. But I already regret it. I would have had tailwind on the way in, headwind on the way back in the afternoon. It looks like it was greatly "blown" out of porportions. They said,35-40mph w/ 70 mph gusts, actually measured was 22mph so far

I left about 10 minutes after posting that, and while it was raining pretty steadily, the wind had largely died down. Goofing off in my office after work ftw!

I rode around a bit looking for a job today. You know the wind is strong when it can push over a Schwinn Varsity...

I rode to my sons school (hales corners area) for their costume parade. headwind, tailwind and side wind. Blown off the road into the gravel one time (about 8" over) and had to pedal strong to go downhill into the wind for one stretch.

Ride in the wind more often. YOu'll get used to it. I can handle maybe up to 40, but I have to slow down .. What I hate is variable winds, that always seem to turn into headwinds.
Oh well. It's a good work out. Sort of like doing hills.

I hate wind. I don't mind steep hills but I hate wind. And it effects us bigger frames more than you smaller frame bodies.

I agree. During the local Century Ride, with a variable wind it seemed like the wind was head on no matter which way you faced! And it is a bit of a joke on our weekly group rides that I get the point and they all tuck in behind me....

The wind was terrible! I had a 10 mile headwind with 40+ mph gusts. Too bad I was dead tired from the first 10 miles to really enjoy the tailwind on the way home.

I live in the Windy City of Chicago and love to ride out into the wind! The reward is coming back with a little help from your friend the wind. Going into the wind builds stamina and character!
