2011 ABR Rule Amendments
Hey everyone I just wanted to pass along an email that Bob L. from ABR sent out to all race promoters today. ABR has amended their 2011 rules for both officials and riders and they go into effect immediately.
One thing I found interesting that I don't think anyone caught, prior to these new amendments, did you know race radios were legal in ABR? I sure didn't. Anyways, here is the message from Bob.

NEW rules have been passed that effect how races are held, Official and Rider requirements.
Officials:
- All bicycle race events will have 5 Officials, three at start finish line, one roving, one within race field. (needed for rule enforcement)
- Official shirts and pants will be white with Official in three inch red letters on chest, back and outside of each leg. (needed for easy recognition)
Equipment
- Lap cards will be posted at each straight section and all Officials will yell laps remaining to each rider or rider group. (needed for riders)
Racers:
- Riders on a Team/Club must wear identically colored helmets, jerseys, shorts/bibs, jackets, socks, gloves and shoes. (needed for easy identification).
- Race numbers: numerical's each will be twelve inches in height and one inch wide. Riders must attached one set each on both right and left side of jersey. (needed for easy identifications).
- Weigh in: All riders will be weighed with race clothes and race bike/gear, target weight male=180lbs, female=120lbs those underweight will have weight bags added to reach target weight. Juniors are exempt.
Race etiquette
- Rider hands must remain on handlebars/brake/shift hoods at all times except when needed to use bottle for drinking, signaling to Officials or making a needed uniform adjustment.
- Earpieces: no radios, telephones, music, ear plugs, earmuffs, etc can be placed into your ears while racing. Handlebar mounted radios are OK but must not be heard by riders next to you. Medically prescribed Hearing aids are OK.
- Passing riders: rider being passed has right of way, rider passing another rider must yell "passing" loud enough so rider being passed and those nearby can hear clearly "passing". (needed to warn riders of position changes).
Finish Line:
- All Officials must record order of finish with at least one of these: paper & pen/pencil, voice recorder, beta/film/vhs/high8/digital picture recording.
- All riders requesting to stop racing must report to finish line Official for approval. If not approved you must continue to race.
- All riders after finishing will remain in their finish order after crossing finish line for 100 yards so an Official at 75 yard mark can easily record finish order.
Awards:
- Everyone who made it this far down this list I congratulate for taking the time to know the race rules, have a great season beyond april fools day.
