Blue Water Century Ride

Not an event or anything... just the nickname I gave to my ride from Utica since I rode to the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron.
Total Miles: 110

Route
Van**** North to 24 Mile Rd. West
24 Mile Rd. West to Macomb Orchard Trail Northeast
Trail ends in Richmond so I took Division Rd to Gratiot which goes all the way to Port Huron

Motorists seemed very nice for the most part, passed safely and shared the roads... only had one issue on the way back when some dude in a full sized pickup truck thought he was more entitled to the road then me and blared on his horn while riding behind me. I guess he thought I should be diving into the ditch so he could make this right turn 5 seconds faster.

I guess you really do meet some interesting people while bike touring. Took about 10 minutes after rolling into Port Huron for this kid to stroll up to me and tell me about how he is a Port Huron "street performer."

I sat down on a park bench to eat my lunch and it didn't take long for my new friends to fly in.

Riding up to and under the Blue Water Bridge.

You're a lot quicker by bike approaching the bridge than when on the yacht I crew on!

Is there a wide shoulder on Gratiot or are you in the traffic lane? Seems like there should be some back roads available. I know they're scouting some for the Great Lake to Lake trail that MTGA is working on that will run from South Haven to Port Huron by stitching together a number of existing pieces.

There is about a 2-3 foot shoulder on Gratiot most of the way... once you start getting into Marysville the shoulder pretty much disappears and you have to ride in the traffic lane. There are sidewalks and I did see a bike path between Marysville and PH but I stayed on the roads.

This is what it looks like once you start getting into Marysville.

So what was that at the end? You pulled in to get a refill of diesel?
