Munster, IN Trail Status (Summer 2013)
A few years ago ( https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...hlight=munster ) there were some trail improvements happening in Munster.
That was finished and reopened in 2012.
More progress. The Pennsy Greenway is now a bi-state bicycle trail- construction from the state line to Fisher St. was finished the first week of June 2013. Here's the view at the state line:
The bike path on the west side of Calumet Ave. from Fisher St. to 45th St. is closed for reconstruction. It looks like some underground utility work was being done, and a freshly paved bike path will be restored.
The Munster portion of the Pennsy Greenway (northwest Indiana) .... The portion from Calumet Ave back to the IN-IL state line is supposed to be built this year also.
I'm hoping that Munster's northern part of new Pennsy Greenway trail will follow the railroad ROW all the way from the state line to Calumet, but I'm guessing they will divert to the Fisher St. bikeway ....

Hope I word this right.....
That new trail section in Munster, is it linking up with the (previously) dead-end trail that ended just a little ways south of Ridge Road?
I rode that trail a few years back from River Oaks Drive to just south of Ridge, where it unceremoniously ended. Was wishing back then that it would go through.
Sounds like it will be nice ride now.

Yes, IndianaRecRider, that is exactly right. The old dead-end point was right on the IL-IN state line, south of Ridge Road and east of Wentworth Avenue. Grab that bike and ride it to another state!

I'm going to be over in Hammond sometime this weekend visiting family. Looks like I'll bringing my bike along so I can hit the trail.
