Bike riders should buy $25 annual license, alderman proposes

"The more bike lanes and Divvy bike rental stations Chicago installs, the more cyclists there are and the bolder some of them become.

That has at least one Chicago alderman seeing dollar signs.

South Side Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd) proposed Wednesday that Chicago bike riders be required to purchase $25-a-year licenses and take a one-hour safety course."

The rest of the article can be read HERE.

Not that it's a rational idea in the first place, but let's see, an Illinois drivers license for those 21 t0 68 costs $30 and is valid for four years. Why then the discrimination against cyclists?

That's what I'm wondering as well. Even though I live in the southern suburbs, I do a lot of riding in the city. My wife and I even ride to her parents house sometimes (they live in the Beverly neighborhood). What are they gonna do, slap us with a fine/ticket??

In reality, I don't see this proposal going too far. If Rahm is truly trying to make Chicago the best biking city in the country, I'm sure he'll be shooting it down.
