Toledo, OH and/or SW Michigan
Headed back to the area for a few weeks, and decided to take the roadie along and get in some shorter rides (no more than 30 miles). Obviously, since it is a roadie, I need pavement. Tracking the Wabash Cannonball is paved through Lucas County (as of 2009, maybe further now), any other ideas? How is the traffic in Toledo? Any ideas for SW Michigan? I am staying Temperance, and would drive to a trailhead if necessary.

Best roads..

Stay out of any roads in Toledo, bad shape and not bike friendly. The Wabash Cannonball is a great scenic ride but you have to stop for traffic every mile or two, and I mean stop and look both ways. I ride a lot on Brint Road, out of Sylvania, OH. You can park at St. Elias Church which is at the eastern end of Brint, and head due west, and you could have a safe, fast ride for at least 20 miles one way.

Most the back roads are good for riding between Ann Arbor and Jackson, from 1-20 miles north of I-94. The Lakeland State Trail from Hamburg to Stockbridge is nice although the western half of the run is gravel.
