S.S Badger Car Ferry

Spent the last two hours cleaning the bicycles and fixing scratches in the paint on my bike. Some ******* piled there bikes on top of mine on the S.S. Badger: Lake Michigan Car ferry. I wanted to talk to someone that works there about it no one would. I had to fill out a survey card and had to put my email address so someone would contact me. So far nothing. I'm pissed.

We were told just lean them up agent the wall on the ship and I told the guy that I was not comfortable with that. Oh they will be fine he says.

When we went to retrieve the bikes mine was leaning over and there were three beat up Walmart specials on top of mine.

Thanks for the warning. Non-cyclists don't understand...they think all bikes are wal-mart bikes.

I was going to point you to a post over in the Square Wheels forums where a guy had a similar problems. Then I noticed that you are that guy!

Consider doing the KATY Trail next year. The URL should be like below. Sign-up starts on March 1st and often fills up in a couple of days.

http://mostateparks.com/2015-katy-trail-ride

Here's last year's info which should change much except the route will go the opposite direction: Clinton to St. Charles, Missouri.

I talked to the vice president of the car ferry line for over a half hour today. He wanted to know what I as a bicyclist would like to see the ferry line do to inprove how a bicycle is stowed away on the ship. I emailed to him some photos of how other car ferry's that my wife and I used store bikes.
He said that he did not rrealizeor think that the ships crew rrealizedthat some bike can cost in the thousands.
I was told to expect a follow up phone call in a few days on what they are doing to inprovend for some more input on what they can do to inprove.

thanks for posting this. I'm taking my bike on the Badger on Sept 5th and I hope the crew handles things better than what you experienced. I hope to stay next to my bike as long as possible, until everyone has boarded and stowed their things.

I took my motorcycle on the Badger about 5 years ago. I used tie-down straps to hold it in place in the cargo bay.

Had I been on bicycle I don't think I would have trusted just leaning it against the wall; I would at least used my bike lock to attach it to something and keep it upright.

That being said, it looks like they're doing a good job taking this seriously and trying to improve the situation. My ride on the Badger was a pleasant one. I'd certainly do it again in the future.

Thank you for your patience and help in improving storage. You've made the trip more pleasant (hopefully) for the rest of us. Riding the SS Badger is on my bucket list (about 2.5hrs south of here).

I just received this from the SS Badger carferry.
Hi Brian, thanks for contacting us. We are installing wall hooks on the side of the ship for bikes to be hung on, so no other bike would be leaned up against yours. Hope to see you on board this year!
