    Door County Century

Has anyone done this ride, and done the full 100? I just signed up, and was wondering if anyone had an experience, good or bad, to share. Thanks.

I'm signed up & will be doing it at the end of a tour which starts in Grand Rapids, MI. I'll be on a touring bike, so I won't be with any of the fast groups. I'm hoping to do the 100. It's my first & probably only time to do it. It looks like a great ride and I hope others that have done it pass along some good information. See you at the ride!

I’m signed up too, but have never been to Door County before. I won’t be fast either — I’ll be on an Atlantis that’s built for comfort, not for speed. That said, I do hope to leave early enough in the day to squeeze the full 100 in.

Completed this century yesterday. It's extremely well run, and the rest stops are excellent. The route is very well marked, the people are very friendly. I was fortunate enough to connect with a group from the Sheboygan area, and rode almost the entire route with them. Most of them were wearing Team Maywood jerseys, and were the some of the nicest folks that I've ever ridden with. Hopefully one of them reads this so that I can express my appreciation once more for including me in their group. Many of them came up to me individually just to chat, and offer encouragement. What a great group of people!! Thanks once more for making the Door County Century the single best riding event that I've partaken in!

Thanks BR46, they did mention that. It's my anniversary weekend, and unfortunately we have already made plans, but that we'll make it a priority in future years.

Sorry I guess I'm a little late but in case anyone searches this thread, I grew up in Door County and this is a great ride. Like you said it's very well run. Its mainly flat with some hills on the Green Bay side of the peninsula. The leg from Ephriam to Bailey's Harbor is a little long if there is a headwind. That road is just flat and straight with nothing to break the wind for you.

This is just nostalgia so you can stop reading here:
Door County was a great place to bike in the 80's (probably still is today) and is the source of my love for cycling today. My mom ran a crafts shop in Ephriam and I would work mornings there in the summer making candles. I had a choice to ride the 45 miles back to Sturgeon Bay or wait for mom to close up her shop. I frequently decided to ride home on an old (even then) Raleigh road bike with pegged cranks.

Wow, what an awesome place to be introduced to riding. Conversely, I wish that I had started riding when I lived in the East Bay for 17 years!

Well, there's the Peninsula Century coming right up on the 13th. I decided to ride it instead of the DCC this year, but it looks like the weather won't be as nice as it was last weekend.

Looks like we swapped spots! Door County is an amazing place to grow up. for those of you that don't know about how nice DC is. Here's a picture of my brothers Hobie on the beach south of Sturgeon Bay.
