great Ohio or Michigan places to mountain bike?

    Hello,

In July, I will be near the Detroit area for 4 days/nights without kids or work, hooray!

I am looking for great places to mountain bike in Michigan or Ohio. What are some great paths, forest preserves, trails, etc within say a 5 hour drive of Detroit? Just read a place called Mochican is really good in Ohio.

What are the cant miss mountain biking trails in Michigan or Ohio?

    Thank you.

    Benny

For Ohio the northwest corner isn't a mtb hot spot. Looks like Findley SP or the Medina trails would be the closest. Mohican isn't that much further, and is indeed very popular. There are also trails on the west side of Cleveland at Mill Stream Reservation (aka Royalview).

Trailforks at least locates most of the major trails in Ohio.

Lots of trails in Michigan too, but I know very little about them.

EDIT: I forgot about Van Buren State Park, just north of Findlay. It's probably the closest Ohio trails to Detroit, just about an hour south of the state line.

A 5hr drive can put you in arguably the best mountain biking in lower Michigan. You could stay in Petoskey area and be centrally located in very hilly riding trails enjoyed by some of our avid and pro riders in Emmet and Charlevoix counties. Strava explore will give some good starter trails, the rest you can map out from LBS info.

ETA: Hint: think Boyne Country ski resorts. Hills we do have up here.
Having a flat tire as part of the total cycling experience is highly overrated. Knowing how to fix one quickly is not.
