    Attempt at Haleakala tomorrow

I'll be taking a stab at Haleakala uphill tomorrow. I plan on starting at round sunrise and plodding along until I hit the top. I've read all I can find about it, including a thread below. Hopefully I've learned something.

I was going to do it today but the radar showed rain all the way up. It'll be hard enough without having to start in the rain. If the weather doesn't cooperate tomw I guess I won't get chance, I have to return the bike and I go home on Wednesday.

I'll report back when I'm done, one way or the other.

Well, I didn't make it. I was near the end of the first set of switchbacks and I realized that I'd never be able to do another 4000 feet of climbing. As it is, this was by far the longest climb I've ever done so I'm not too disappointed The switchbacks are steeper than the climb in general, plus you could see how high each was, and it got pretty discouraging. I thought that maybe if I made it to the park entrance I'd be motivated to finish but once I had it in my head that I have nothing left I just turned around.

    The downhill was fun.
