Starting out - 2012 Trek 7.3 FX Disc or 2014 Trek 7.3 FX (non-Disc) ?

Looking at two bikes in my local area. They are very similar, both being recent-production Trek 7.3 FX's.

Would love to find out from someone knowledgeable whether or not there are any significant model-year differences between these two bikes? Maybe the derailleur set is significantly better on one vs the other, or maybe frame geometry changed noticeably, or whatever.

Also, wondering if the disc brakes are a major improvement.

These two bikes are for sale for the same price, so no difference there.

Thanks!!

If they are both like new, I'd opt for the disc version.

Trek usually archives specs on their bikes for several years, perhaps check their website.

I would grab the disc version if it were me.

You will find a few conflicting opinions but I think the vast majority of people would tell you to buy the bike with disc brakes. Unless there is some radical new breakthrough on the horizon, I cannot see myself buying a bike without disc brakes.

I prefer traditional brakes also. Check out the Trek archives page

Unless you anticipate riding in the rain or other adverse conditions, supposedly there is little benefit to disc brakes. I ended up not getting them on my bike and occasionally I get that pang of regret that I didn't opt for the latest / cool thing. But I've never had a problem with my 7.4 FX stopping (once properly adjusted) and it's got regular brakes that I know how to work on.

Unless you own or have owned a bike with disc brakes and actually had some mileage with disc brakes your comment is totally invalid.
