Spokes popping every other day?

I've a 2011 Giant Escape 2 and lately I've been plagued with broken spokes every other day.
How do I know when it's time to get a new wheel altogether instead of fixing these? and what would be durable replacement wheels recommendation using 8 spd shimano hub?

Thanks.

Are you replacing the spokes yourself or is the LBS doing the repair work for you?

One spoke breaks = these things happen.
2-3 spokes break = time to have wheel rebuilt.
More than that = new wheel time.

When you get the rim back, from repair, is it "true" both vertically and horizontally?

It's pretty easy to get the "side to side" wobble out of a wheel, but if there is any vertical "hop" , detail to overall spoke tension comes into play.
Sounds like your spokes (is this happening in both front and back?) have been "flexing" for a while.
Just like bending a paper clip "back and forth", the metal fatigues and the wire eventually fails.
Are your spokes breaking at the elbow or the threads?
