Easiest way to transport Giant escape?

Im researching hybrids for a purchase next spring. i really like the look and feel of the giant escape, but the unique shape of the top tube worries me, as i have a trunk mounted bike rack and supports the bike by the top tube. does anyone else use this setup? my other option is transporting it in the back (02 ford focus hatchback) with the front wheel off. i would rather know before showing up at the bike shop and not be able to drive it home.

Why not bring your rack to the shop for test-fitting before buying?

I have a Giant Escape and carry it on my rear car rack. It works fine.

I have a similar situation with a Yakima King Joe Pro-3 trunk-mounted carrier and a Trek 3500 mtb with 16" frame and sloping top tube. Yakima strongly warns against carrying this type of bike without their frame adapter (about $40), claiming that the front wheel of the bike could strike pavement. I plan to try mounting the bike on the carrier minus the front wheel. I can't foresee a problem with that, but I'll see what it looks like before driving anywhere! BTW, you should be able to carry your bike in the trunk of the Focus if you remove the front wheel and fold down the rear seats - I've done this with my Chevy HHR. Worst case, remove both wheels. I've done that and carried bikes in the trunk of a sedan.

Thanks for that info! Is the top tube like the 2015? Or is it an earlier model with the more popular rounder tube? Pictures would be appreciated!

Perhaps try to test fit a ~1x1 piece of wood, look at other bike racks? Most LBS sell cross bar adapters for $20-$30, which is a tube that clamps/fits between seat and stem that is more level, straight, and round. I'm sure a Giant dealer has faced bike rack fitment issues more than once and have plenty of them. My specialized dealer was ready to sell me one for my crosstrail, but I didn't need it as my rack rotates to accommodate about any tube or tube angle. I could probably clamp the seat post to it if I wanted.

Mine has a round top tube, about 1-1/2" diameter. It fits on the rack without any problems. Due to the small frame size (16"), the length of the top tube is just barely long enough to clear the spread between the carrier's bars, but it works.
